the Sweetbush Revival

About Me

It all started a few years ago on a back porch in Mississippi. Fueled by wine and the never-ending support of our friends and family, the band "Sweetbush" was born. After putting together a demo of some original songs mixed with a few of our favorite covers, we entered the Smith-Vinson Songwriter's competition making it into the finals. We knew we'd be playing for a fervently religious crowd in Tupelo, MS. So, in an effort to sound more respectable and wholesome (tee-hee-hee), we changed our name to "the Sweetbush Revival," won the competition, and, well, the rest is history.... We are currently in the process of recording our new album which is due to be released this summer, so stay in touch!!!

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Stevi of Oxford, MS, and Melissa of (most recently) Staunton, VA, on vocals and acoustic guitars.....with accompanying musicians that we affectionately call "the Bushmen." Currently the Bushmen consist of our husbands Dave (bass) and Brian (drums, lead guitar), but we have also played with many different Oxford locals: Tommy Bryan (mandolin, banjo), Ted (drums), and Jeff (sitar, tabla).
Influences: Allison Krauss, Gillian Welch, Lucinda Williams, Emmy Lou, and Willie.....just to name a few, but I feel like our influences extend across many years of music lovin.
Sounds Like: an organic mixture of folk and bluegrass-influenced country with attention to dual harmony.
Type of Label: Major
