A Soul Divided started its life as a cover band hired to play at a party. The name was derived from Lincoln's famous "A House Divided" speech. The original line-up consisted of members, Charlie Lewis and Scott Hancock, as well as rhythm guitarist Jesse Carlin, and drummer J.Neal Naranjo. After later disputes, Carlin was fired and replaced by Joel Calloway, and Naranjo left the band to continue with his other projects. The band decided that the cover gig would not be necessary and started on their own material. In early January 2006, the band recruited Carlos Lamkin to drum. After a few early session the band decided to give recording a try. On January 28, 2006, "Unity", an instrumental hard rock track, was recorded In early Feb., the band played its only gig to date at a party despite Hancock's abscence. Due to constant disputes and creative differences the band decided to call its quits in early March. Lewis, Calloway, and Hancock soon reformed and still play. After trying to re-unite with drummers, all attempts seemed bleek and pointless but nonetheless they strive towards becoming better musicians. Through the band's knowledge of music theory, use of effects pedals, and heavy focused distortion, they find new ways to reinvent the rules when it comes to hard rock. After a long road of changes ASD is continuing to do it big.
BAND MEMBER QUOTES
Charlie Lewis"I love rock music, and I love creating this kind of music, but I don't appreciate the culture that surrounds it. Malicious people, trashy fads, and unneccesary fashion statements have all arose from what was just supposed to be a unique form of expression. People who say they are trying to be different are fooling themselves, because that is ultimately what everyone is trying to do. We as a band are not going to fall into the same downward spiral that's consuming people worldwide. We are going to keep a clean image and avoid things that we find to be ignorant and unintelligent. We appreciate FANS, not punks, goths, emo kids, skaters, metal heads, and non-conformists. First Street Cafe is nothing but trash. The only reason I would ever play there is for exposure. I'm a firm believer in the theory of "Title Dictates Behavior". Based upon thier foolish actions people are given labels, and as unjust as that may be, it shows the ineptitude of a population. So when you see us hop on stage in our Abercrombie & Fitch or American Eagle, just sit back and let us blow your mind. Enjoy our music, but never try to drag us down and make us a part of a negative influence. I don't associate with trash."
