I really, really like Meatloaf's music. And not in an ironic way. But I can understand why someone might assume I'm being ironic (e.g., his weight/occasionally odd facial hair, that he rarely writes his own songs, my age, that his lyrics [or, rather, for the most part, Jim Steinman's lyrics, but still] are, admittedly [i.e., admitted by me, not, as far as I know, by Meatloaf or J. Steinman], totally ridiculous, etc.), but I'm not. Being ironic. I like Meatloaf's songs, I like the way they sound. I think he's lovable, and I think his music is uniquely American--though not, at all, unique within American music (see, please, Springsteen, Bruce circa 1977). Also, I get uncomfortable when forced to talk in any 24 hour period with more than 3 people wearing mustaches that I suspect of being ironic mustaches. And, despite the above, in general, I'm pro-irony.
