MIX 21 The New York Queer Experimental Film Festival
October 15-19, 2008
217 Water Street (at Beekman), Manhattan, NY
www.mixnyc.org This year MIX NYC celebrates its 21st year of dedication to demanding experimental queer film with MIX 21: The New York Queer Experimental Film Festival. The MIX Festival presents cutting-edge moving image work, including film, video, installations and performance.
Founded in 1987 by filmmaker Jim Hubbard and novelist Sarah Schulman, MIX is home of The Act-Up Oral History Project, A Different Take Queer Youth Media Training Program, MIXtv, film preservation, fiscal sponsorship, community screenings and of course the annual film festival.
MIX seeks to integrate the lesbian, gay and experimental film communities by creating an innovative festival that serves as a home for both established and emerging makers while promoting and encouraging the awareness, making and preservation of work that challenges and expands our vision of media and the world.
Community screenings take place in various NYC neighborhoods throughout the year...at places such as the Lesbian Herstory Archives, Identity House, Bronx Academy of Arts & Dance, Cattyshack and more. If you're interested in hosting a free community screening, please contact us!
