The Nets played at the Coliseum from 1972 – 1977 and won American Basketball Association Championships in 1974 and 1976. Julius “DR. J†Erving from Roosevelt was league MVP in 1974, 75 & 76.
The Coliseum holds the distinction of being the next facility Elvis Presley was scheduled to play on August 22, 1977 before his un-timely death a week earlier.
The Coliseum was one of only two arenas in 1980 to have the Pink Floyd “The Wall†tour.
In August of 1989, the Coliseum staged the Rolling Stones “Steel Wheels†tour rehearsal for the entire month.
Nickelodeon’s Mega-Mess-A-Mania broke all records for any event that they have done in any venue. Our other family shows including Disney’s On Ice, Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, Sesame Street Live, Smucker's Stars on Ice and new additions each year continue to entertain Long Island and tri-sate area families every year.
Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus holds the Nassau Coliseum record for most performances. They have performed at the facility each year since 1972. The concert record for most performances is held by the Grateful Dead with 35. Billy Joel is next with 19. In addition, he played 9 sold out shows from January through May of 1998 which was the consecutive concert performance record for a year.
