RosCo And The Heads

About Me

'RosCo And The Resin Heads' were formed in McAlester, OK in 1991 with original drummer Blane Mouser, Steven Ford on bass, and Ross'RosCo' Chronister on guitars and vocals. The three original members were graduates of near by Wilburton High School and they performed classic rock, blues, and original music penned by Chronister. Ford and Mouser were just getting their start in the music business but Chronister had toured Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas at this point, playing and singing in his own band based out of Kansas and also working as an assistant sound man for G&S Electronics based in Oxford, KS. Mouser left the band to pursue a career in something else so another Wilburton graduate, Leland Caldwell filled in for some dates until Robert Ott was hired for the drummers throne. The band played parties and bars in the SE Oklahoma area called Little Dixie which frowned down on such 'Hippie Devil Music Makers' such as the Resin Heads and Ott soon left the band to concentrate on marriage. Ford suggested John 'Hound Dog' Larison as a replacement drummer, and the band began to earn a reputation for hard partying and hard rocking. Soon, Ford left the band to tour with many different country bands and to open for legends such as Jerry Lee Lewis and George Jones. John Sokolosky was drafted on bass, but The Heads began to lose momentum as the partying seemed to take its toll and the bands bad rep led to fewer and fewer gigs. In 1996, the band broke up and Chronister hit the road touring the southwest in cover bands opening for Slaughter, Nazareth, .38 Special, and many others. He also moved to bass for a short time forming the blues based Blak Kat Bone which released its first CD in 1998 and had regional success opening for Eric Sardinas and Blind Dog Smokin as well as touring Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas. The Bone broke up in 2002 and Ford, Chronister and Robert Ott decided to give the music biz another shot. In 2003, the band shortened its name to 'RosCo And The Heads' and released its debut CD, 'Latimer County Line.' Ott left the band for a final time and Ford left again to pursue other interests. Chronister then hired California bass man John Seymour who introduced him to Detroit born and bred drummer Kenny Puma. Puma had a solid history in percussion performing with various bands that included a set at the legendary New York club, CBGBs. The new lineup debuted in North Town, McAlester, OK in April 2004 and Seymour was soon replaced by old bass man Steven Ford. Back in the stride of things, The Heads released the albums, 'Live Resin' (2004) 'Okie Land' (2005) and 'Rectifier' (2006) They partnered with Conventicle Films to shoot three promo videos for 'Rectifier' which are available at The Heads web site. After a June 2007 gig, Chronister became ill and had to take the rest of the year off, but in March 2008, the band got back together and started yet again. Old friend and Red Dirt Troubadour Lonnie Lay graciously agreed to help out on local dates and help Chronister with vocal duties as well as co-found the acoustic duo "Zero Radius and Ice Cream Boy." The pair plan to record a CD in 2009 and a new release from RosCo and The Heads is also pending, as well as a long shelved project called "The Blues Farmers" in addition to a Lonnie Lay solo CD. 2008 also saw the release of two new Heads songs, 'Shelter From The Storm' and 'No Goodbyes.' Both tunes have enjoyed favorable status on the My Space charts and will be included in their 2009 CD release. Work continues in SE Oklahoma and The Heads are rocking and a rolling! http://RosCoAndTheHeads.ComI edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
