About Me

I love Hip Hop. I grew up as a teenager in Detroit during the 80's golden age. Ive been down long enough to truly appreciate and understand the significance of the summer of '88 and groups like Eric B and Rakim, Public Enemy, BDP, and EPMD. It was a time when hip hop was diverse and innovative. I got my start dancing for 2 Deep at the Brotherhood Club in '88. I would memorize my favorite emcees lyrics with ease, but didnt start rhymin until the spring of 92, while I attending Tuskegee University.By the time I graduated in 94, Hip Hop finest year, I had become a well rounded emcee. I could write songs and freestyle at the drop of a dime. Thanks to hours of practicing and freestyle sessions with the 10 Jack Drive (college roommates). A job opportunity landed me in Atlanta, GA, but I kept close ties to the D. I hooked up with Unplugged Roots (R.I.P. 558) through my best friend Jamal aka J Palm, just in time to collaborate on the groups second EP. My first time in a professional studio yielded Nonchalant's Theme, which appeared on the critically acclaimed EP, Always Wyde (1994). I was known as Nonchalant two years before ol girl came out with the name. I later changed it up to Tony Lyrical.I continued to record with Unplugged Roots appearing on their third EP, Practice, Patience, & Adaptations (1996) with the classic 360 Degrees. I always wanted to do a solo album and after a few years finally dropped my debut ISO 9000 - Standard Series Hip Hop (1999). While, the International Standards Organization has deployed basic standards within various industries, with this album, I was bringing quality standards back to hip hop through innovative beats and thought provoking lyrics.I followed my debut up with the much improved and much more personal Anthonology - The Evolution of Man (2001). While recording this album I came to grips with the game, and made a conscious decision to do music for the love, not for the fortune and fame.My latest project is aptly titled Freestyle Volume 2: We Still Got It (2005). It was an hour long freestyle session with me and Marcus Flaniken on the mic and J Palm supplying the beats in his basement. That was the most fun we had in years. Even though were grown men with kids and all that, we showed and proved that We Still Got It.
