BIO
The name DJ SMV (formerly DJ SMOOVE) originates from old high school friends back in SMVs hometown TOKOROA who would often praise him for his ‘smooth’ ability to mix (blend) songs together really well. He took this practice to local parties in the early-mid 90s & would receive the same feedback. The name has stuck for over 10 years & Smoove is now one of New Zealand’s finest Hip Hop DJs.
SMV has paid dues in the New Zealand DJ battle scene for a number of years. This gained him national recognition & respect in the local Hip Hop community. He placed highly amongst the elite such as P-Money, DJ CXL The Abbott & Manchoo.
The battle scene has since opened doors to SMV featuring on DJ Sirvere’s multi platinum Major Flavours 2 compilation. DJ for the Dubious Bros 2001 – 2003. Host & co- founder of New Zealand’s longest running open mic night, The Lyricist Lounge Hamilton. Numerous album release parties shows & tours through out New Zealand (Katchafire, Sirvere MZRE Savage, Nesian Mystik, Tyna & JB, Chong nee ect…).
Smoove is a party rocker & mixtape DJ. He has released 2 Major Mixtapes independently. Stealth Mode & Stealth 2. Each receiving the highest of praise’s nationwide. Stealth Mode received 4.5 crates out of 5 in New Zealand’s premier Hip Hop Magazine ‘Back2Basics’. You will find these mixtapes planted nationwide from the top of the north to the cold bottom of the south. This effort has seen Smoove obtain a large under-ground fan base all over New Zealand. These 2 mixtapes featured exclusive tracks & freestyles from New Zealand’s hottest MC’s. 4 Corners, Temple Jones, Tyna & JB , Ethical, Usual Suspects, Tyson Tyler, Ermehn, Albino & The Wanderers to name a few.
SMVs unique style of mixtape has made him one of NZ’s ‘go to’ DJs for many a MC & crew wanting a similar vibe to his Stealth Mode releases. 44Meta4z of Wellington’s popular underground scene had Smoove mix their debut street release titled ‘What You in It 4?’ receiving 4 crates out of 5 in the Jan’Feb 2007 edition of Back2Basics magazine.. See a pattern developing here? Stealth 3 will be available Mid 2007. It will feature the likes of Young Sid (MTC/Universal), Chong nee (Handmade records), up-n-coming MC DZIAK (Doughboy records) & 4 Corners (Grindin Records) to name a few. A New Zealand tour is expected also.
With many mixtapes in the pipeline either for himself or others you can expect nothing but the real from DJ SMV. You will catch him rocking a nightclub near you with his host MC JB (Tyna & JB). SMV’s live performance as a DJ is second to none with tricks, party bangers & classics all night long!.
