I like spending good times with good friends, good music and good food, learning things that shouldn't be forgotten, playing in the dirt and growing food, challenging my assumptions, sledding in the winter, mud football in mud season, ultimate frisbee when it dries off, skinny dipping when it's too hot to play ultimate... I like camp fires and starry skies, sharing stories, I like organizing to create a more just and sustainable world and learning about people who have made positive change. I like hot cocoa with Baily's when it's cold and iced lattes when it's hot. Sometimes I like to be alone and write. I like to ride my bike and take pictures in the marsh and bluffs and fleeting moments of beauty. I like biking in the rain and getting drenched clear through. I'm fond of my cat, even if she is full of trouble. I enjoy getting into trouble myself, but not too much. I love the smell of leaves changing colors and the crisp foggy mornings. I enjoy making and drinking good beer. I live to seek joy and to share it.
Jane Addams, Lenore Kandel, Wangari Maathai, Ang Sun Suu Kyi, Ann Brunette, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, my Grandpa Clifford, wonderful people.
where to start... I like all sorts of music. I like music that's not too abrasive, stuff with good sound and good lyrics. Wednesday night music is amazing. I'm enjoying Okervill River and the Eels, Old Crow when they calm down a little, um, I'm a big fan of good folk music, particularly the Rogers' crew- Stan, Garnet and Nathan, as well as, well, there's so much good music. I am fond of angst-ridden music I listened to in high school (I had a lot of angst) and am disappointed by the lack of strong women singing songs of angst in the past few years. And so much more.
I'm not a big movie person, but Garden State is by far my most favorite movie ever. Beyond Rangoon is good too, particularly if you've got a VHS and don't understand what's going on in Myanmar (Burma) right now.
Word Alchemy by Lenore Kandel (her book that wasn't brought up on obscenety charges) is by far and away the most amazing poetry I've ever read. She makes words say more than a thousand pictures and takes you inside a place you never knew you understood. Some other good books are Back to Basics, Where the Wild Things Are, The Giver, Bridge to Terabithia, the Starving Artist's Way and Population 485
