------------------------AS DESCRIBED BY DAVID "BASIL" DEMASE-------------------------------
"The fall of Rome, the underground railroad, the end of
World War V...The Baboon...not since Jefferson Time
Machine has there existed a band that has embodied the
purist incarnation of molten lava racing down the
mountain of human excellence. The Baboon is a tornado of
sonic self expression that levels and annihilates
havens of mediocrity that threaten to degrade a
progressive movement that has ushered in a renaissance
of artistic enlightenment. The Baboon is a golden
phallus, forcefully thrust into the withered, tired
face of the music industry. Their powerfully acidic
semen continuously corrodes the foundation of an
institution that for too long assaulted the ears of
progressive-minded individuals who long for an audio
experience that transcends the boundaries of
government and religion.
The Baboon is as follows:
Jeff Carter: Jeff Carters horn blowing is the sonic
equivalent of a thousand enslaved children running to
freedom.
Phil Pardell: His drum playing is legend throughout the
mythology of percussion. With every beat he plays, a
creature at the bottom of the gulf of Mexico grows
larger.
Brian Manser: Brian's Git Box abilities are second t
none. it is said that Mahatma Ghandi declared Brian's
music as the precursor to world peace and self
enlightenment.
Chris Ashman: Ashmans trumpet playing embodies the
power of 7 million elephants trampling over the face
of evil. He is always immaculately groomed.
Scott Churchman: The chosen successor of both
Alexander the Great and David Koresh. Churchman sends
a sonic wave of emotion that is responsible for the
migration of all winged organisms. It is said that if
he were to be given a bass the size of Texas, he could
realign the very orbit of the known solar system."
---------------------------------------------BIOGRAPHY------
---------------------------------------------
Formed in the spring of 2005, this all original Jazz collective initially consisted of only four members: Jeff Carter on saxophone, Brian Manser on guitar, Scott Churchman on upright bass, and Phil Pardell on drums. In the following summer, their essential fifth member was addedChris Aschman on trumpet and steel pan. All of the musicians met and played with each other on separate occasions while studying music and the intricacies of their instruments at The University of the Arts in Philadelphia. Yet, It wasnt until upon playing a typical jam session with one another that they had realized an inexplicable connection shared amongst themselves. With this evenly spread bond of musical ideas and skills, the everyday session of musicians became a band.
Interestingly, all five members had already written original compositions and adapted them for the group before deciding that composing was the best operative for the band. This is of course what contributes to the groups very unique style and sound. The bands influences range from bebop and experimental jazz to rock, folk, electronic, and other worldly sounds. The Quintets openness to all genres of music inspire them to create works that make an effort to transcend any limits or boundaries yet, always strive to captivate the audience.
The Baboon have been seen performing at venues like The Tritone as well as many private parties, organizations, University concerts, and art galleries/shows. Currently, with the presence of a relaxed summer, they are feverishly writing new material while rehearsing on a weekly basis. The group is also working on a full-length demo, which they expect to finish by the fall.
