As dance music started to assert itself in the German clubs in the late 80ies, Heller & Enkie were still young teenagers. At that time they lived without knowing themselves, many hundred kilometres far from each other and both experienced the early years of the electronic music scene alone for themselves. However, the new club culture fascinated both early and soon they developed from "usual" club visitors to active creators of the scene. Aga Heller became known as a promoter of different events and he took over the management of different clubs, which names are legendary today, as for example the Oz, Nexus 6 or M1_The Club in Stuttgart.. He also founded a booking agency before which should develop to one of the most important of her kind in Germany. In this time he worked together with the biggest stars of the scene, among others with Sven Väth, Paul van Dyk, Armand van Helden, Roger Sanchez, Westbam, Mark Spoon, Deep Dish or also Carl Cox. In the beginning he still found time to work in his real job as a radio editor, later he still presented one of the most successful radio shows in the area of Stuttgart for years. In 2000 Aga Heller sold his agency and came to Hamburg, where he started to work for a major record company. Shortly after that he met Oliver Enkie the first time.
At that time Oliver Enkie experienced likewise an exciting history in the scene of Hamburg by himself. In the middle of the 90s he was one of the resident DJs at the legendary Tunnel Club in Hamburg (alongside Timo Maas). He played regularly at most respected clubs across the nation and at all big events, as for example at Tresor in Berlin or also at the Love Parade.
Together Heller & Enkie discovered their love to Progressive House and Underground Trance, at a time when in most German clubs nearly only cheesy commercial tracks were played. Heller & Enkie see themselves in the tradition of "real" trance DJs, like Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren or Markus Schulz, but they also love open minded House DJs, as Deep Dish, Danny Tenaglia or Sander Kleinenberg. For Heller & Enkie it is quite simple: "Trance is not a genre for us, Trance is a tuneful and pushing sound and not this dizzy stuff with vocals, with predictable structures and many drum whirls. Trance can be, actually, everything, from Progressive House to Techno. We cannot be fixed on anything." The DJ team is known for euphoric Progressive House influenced by trancy sounds with high claim.
Nowadays Heller & Enkie belong to the most important innovators of the German scene. This is due to the fact that Heller & Enkie took over the responsibility for the mix album series TRANCE NATION about five years ago. TRANCE NATION is the oldest dance compilation series of Germany and also its most successful series featuring only Trance and Progressive House and counts to this day as pointing the way for "real" Trance music. Regularly Heller & Enkie release new volumes of the series and present the recent and worldwide most respected Trance sound in their DJ mix. In 2004 TRANCE NATION celebrated the ten years anniversary!
In 2005 they started their own label Supra Recordings. Artists like Armin van Buuren, Gabriel & Dresden, Markus Schulz, Harry Lemon and Perry O´Neil released their productions there. Even their own productions get a massive support in the Trance Scene, like their remix of the classic track Open Your Eyes by Nalin & Kane, for example.
Furthermore Heller & Enkie are successful as a DJ-Team. They played at huge festivals several times, like Nature One Festival (Germanys biggest Dance-Festival), for example, but also in loads of super clubs like U60311 in Frankfurt.
Innovation, instead of looking backwards, is the motto of Heller & Enkie. The sound of Trance has grown up and meets the requirements of a high demand. And Heller & Enkie did their contribution in Germany.
