Daily Mouse is punk plus folk that yields no emo. Sou MacMillan, nationally recognized poet & former vocalist for Caroline/Double Deuce band Pet Ufo, is riding with the green guitar through the landscape of Girlville. Things are changing all the time - right now Daily Mouse is playing with poems & music, taking fingers & bow to guitar, & putting together a soundtrack for the 2006 release Shallow Empire (Lethe Press).
The sound embraces the vulnerable, but often with a Violent Femmes sensibility - it has been compared to a smoother Ani DiFranco, an edgier Patty Griffin, or an attitude-ridden Joni Mitchell with a band. In review of the first release, Gimpy, Worcester Magazine tells of, "acoustic guitars & violin lines that sway like a wayward kite." Worcester Magazine also claimed Gimpy as one of the area's top ten releases in 2003, a mighty feat for a three-track disc.
If Money Burns, the first full-length release from Daily Mouse, was recorded with Ron Dumont (Camellia, Rolling Blackouts, Gordon Gano band) on bass, Emily Packard (Question Cloud, live Violent Femmes performances) on violin, and also includes co-writing credits from Nobody's Favorite Records artist, Mark Mandeville.
Newest tracks are recorded with Eric Urban in his third-floor apartment, with help from cats, neighbours, & the coldest part of wintertime.
Look for Sou MacMillan's new novel, Chrysanthemum, available in March 2007.
