One day I'll come,
and I'll bring a message.
I'll pour light into veins
and I will call out:
"Hey you with your baskets full of sleep!
I have brought you apples, the red apples of the sun."
I'll come, and to the beggar, I'll give a jasmine.
To the beautiful leper woman, I'll give another earring.
To the blind man, I'll say: "How spectacular the garden!"
I'll become a peddler, working the streets, hawking:
"Dewdrops! I have dewdrops!"
"What a dark night," a passerby will exclaim;
I'll give him a galaxy.
There sits a legless girl on the bridge;
I'll hang the seven stars of Ursa Major around her neck.
All the swear words--I'll wipe them from people's lips.
All the walls--I'll tear them down.
To the robbers I'll say:
"A caravan has arrived, laden with smiles."
The clouds--I'll tear them apart.
I will tie a knot, linking eyes to the sun,
hearts to love,
reflections to water,
tree branches to wind.
And I'll tie a child's slumber to the chirping of crickets.
The kites--I'll send them aloft.
The flowerpots--I'll water.
I'll come, and I'll spread the green grass of kindness
before horses and cows.
To a thirsty mare, I'll take a pail of dewdrops.
An old donkey on the road--I'll whisk his flies away.
I'll come, and I'll plant a carnation on top of every wall.
I'll recite a poem below every window.
I'll give a pine tree to every crow.
I'll tell the snake: "How glorious the frog!"
I'll reconcile.
I'll introduce.
I'll walk.
I'll feed on light.
