About Me

Born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia, singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Peter Long has been quietly honing his craft through a series of diverse, seminal indie bands since the late 1980s, kicking off with the pop of Primitive Painters, then the more experimental Puppethead, which released two albums through German label Zuma, through the power pop Resounder and into the “avant rock” Bumbum. All that experience has culminated in his remarkable debut solo album, Midday Sun.
“From the eerie atmosphere, complete with squalls of building guitars, of Melody’s Fate, through the multi-layered harmony splendour of Stay Until Sunday to the vaguely ominous soundscape that delivers Fall Away... throughout, it’s obvious Long has a solid hold of his material and a focus to match, realising each song with such an eye for detail the whole thing just shimmers in your ears, the way it does in all the classic pop albums, from Revolver on.” (Michael Smith, The Drum Media.)
Taking his influences not just from the power pop that first captured his imagination as a teenager or the Latin, American and electronica he has discovered along the way but also from the place he now calls home, the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, Midday Sun is bright sparkling pop with a dark underbelly, full of tales of love and longing, lust and betrayal, light and shadow, and irresistible melodies.
"Imagine The Beatles, Radiohead, Pink Floyd and Air having a jam, and you'll get some idea of what its like... it's a kind of eerie spacious pop-rock with a lot of heart." (Daniel Holdsworth, Stix Magazine.)
Ever the musical adventurer, you’ll have seen Peter performing most recently as part of the a cappella Spooky Men’s Chorale, and collaborating with former Primitive Painters colleague Greg Vincent in The Ashram Poets.
