Legion of Divine Punishment originated 1998 Memphis, with original vocalist Ryan Riley, guitarists Gray Morgan and Joshua Braddock, and drummer Adam “Skred†Abel. Released “No Flesh Shall Be Spared†the same year with all bass recorded by Braddock. The four song ep showcased early live staples “Sodom 2001 The Dead City†and “Let The Bleeding Beginâ€. A mean debut, chock full of filthy guitars, guttural howling and chaotic drumming, recalling the glory years of thrash and doom. Disbanded spring 1999. Reformed fall 99 with Lev Hughes on vocals, lead guitarist Richie “Nine†Wood, Skred on drums, Morgan on rhythm guitar and bassist B. D. Released six song ep “Studies In Ferocity†early 2000 with new alma maters “Eating Machine†and “Knives(Reflecting The Eclipse)†finding homes on various compilations across the Southern states. The band experimented with different sounds this time around, incorporating a somewhat panicked punk edge, mixed with Southern fried malevolence, driven home with the tried and true old school debauchery from the original line up. Hughes’ insane vocals, coming from a really sick and depraved place, most dare not venture. Wood left 2001, and was never replaced. Released first full length “Born Ugly†2004. “Born Ugly†revisits the finest moments of the hardscrabble LDP story. An album that took two years to complete, and would culminate with the mysterious disappearance of bassist B.D. Former lead guitarist Jash Braddock returned to the fold, replacing B. D. Led by the single and slapstick video “One More Year†the thirteen song album became an instant classic with fans and would make up the majority of the live LDP experience for the next three years. LDP entered the studio last winter and recorded it’s second full length record “It Is What It Isâ€. A collection of in your face metal, with a heavy Southern boogie feel, well documenting the band’s maturity, both sonically and mentally. Braddock would exit the band after recording the album and the band have enlisted the services of Josh Sparks on bass.
