The Moonshiners

About Me

Yet more changes to The Moonshiners line-up. Ian having moved on and Alasdair after over 15 years has also decided to retire from the band. We will miss them both and wish them well for the future. John has now established himself in the band and has contributed greatly to developing a new more versatile sound, while still keeping to The Moonshiners Bluegrass roots. Recent line-up has consisted of John, Jimmy and Phil with the addition of Gemma Donald (fiddle and vocals) and Victor Smith (mandolin and vocals) who are both players of the highest standard. Mutual appreciation of each others musicianship results in a fantastic sound that lives up to the bands reputation for tight Bluegrass. We are enjoying developing the bands sound and hope to continue adding to the list of past achievements and playing at festivals and venues old and new. The band have been firm favourites on the Scottish music and festival scene and have travelled worldwide playing for audiences from Amsterdam to America. Our appearance at The Catskill Bluegrass Festival heralded the quote from American Bluegrass Magazine "the freshest sound in bluegrass music I have head comes not from Kentucky, Tennessee, or West Virginia but from the other side of the Atlantic in Glasgow. We have welcomed such luminaries as Tim O'Brien, Kathy Chiavola, Steve Kaufman and Ralph McTell to join us on stage and provided backing for Martin Stephenson and the late John Herald on many occasions..
