About Me

BACK AWAY FROM THE MOUSE!!... and read on.... Excuse the sound quality of the tracks - they were recorded live!, nearly 30 years ago, on a cassette-tape recorder placed waaay too close to the drumkit - so the vocal isn't always audible - but it gives you a sense of that DIY punk ethic that ANYONE can get out and play, and you didn't have to win some stupid reality TV show to be in a 'band'!... If that's asking too much, then we'll look forward to watching you making a fool of yourself on this year's Shit Idle auditions - (or worse still, buying the winners/losers CDs) - you get what you deserve my friends! So let us take you back to a time when this shit meant something!!.... it's rough as a bear's arse, but who cares... we were having a ball... IT'S ONLY ROCK 'N ROLL....!!The Jelly Helicopters - Warrington's loudest, shittiest band from those halcyon days when any loud shitty band could get on stage and play live! in your local pub... BUT everyone was there to see us... 6th formers, but we thought we were gods!... Turn it up 'cos "this goes to Eleven"....WATCH THIS VIDEO... it's bloody brilliant!! (trust me)
Apocalypse Now

We don't have any footage of the original 'Helicopters' to show you - these videos are from the early '80s... the Jellies were no more, and everyone had moved on to 'better' things (job, mortgage, wife, kids, long pants etc) BUT original guitarist David was still in there with 2 mates, Dave and Gary (who were brothers) on bass/vocals and drums... "Apocalypse Now" was one of their own songs.... (too much time on their hands if you ask me!?).... I'd gone along to see this latest incarnation of the band and was co-ersed into sitting in on drums... I am visibly uncomfortable sat behind someone else's kit, and this was our attempt at an old crowd favourite.... By the way, this is a rehearsal - not a gig - the audience of one cheering at the end is my ex-wife (bless 'er!)... Mark
Another Girl, Another Planet

And this is surely the work of the Devil... hopefully my 'stylish' '80s fashion sense, and 'bum-fluff' moustache will distract you sufficiently as to not notice how rubbish I've become... (maybe vacating the drum-stool to rescue cats from trees was a wise career choice) - "Re-mem-ber...... The Hor-ror...!!"
Brickfield Nights

If you want to know what happened to our rubbish drummer, he's 'THE FIRE CIRCUS' on our top friends' list so go see, if your curiosity is getting the better of you....Chris is the guitar slinger/singer with 'THE MONEY SHOT' - have a look at their page - David is still playing with 'BIG BOOT BAND', and Dave the bass player is 'TRUANT' on our friends' list.

Chris (vocals/guitar) David (guitar/vocals) Martin aka Spud (bass) Mark (drums) Create a Free Slideshow.... We were the finest 'musicians' to never come out of Warrington... It was the late '70s and we were still at school (so we're all middle-aged now) but back in the day we could tear it up with the worst of them... mostly covers 'cos who's got time to write their own bloody tunes...!? Some of us have got school in the morning!!... Chris, David and Mark were pretty constant throughout our short time playing the pubs and clubs of this once great town of ours.... Spud's mum very kindly let us rehearse in her hairdressing salon - bottles of shampoo used to vibrate and fall onto the tiled floor.. (you can hear 'em smashing on some of our early demos) - sticky underfoot, but it was better than being spat on!!Other 'notables' were Glenn (guitar) - who never used a plectrum and would flap at the strings with an open hand (very odd!) - and Alan (bass) whose sister Mark later married... (thanks for that, Al!?)... We should also mention another Dave who was our original singer, and modelled himself on Sid... he was only about 14 but he was as mad as a hatter and would have been a great frontman... we had some great times back then but we got fuck-all done!! (wonder what happened to him?)We changed the band name fairly frequently too, so a family tree would be a right bugger! (just as well fame eluded us, eh Guiness Book Of Hit Singles?).... Now get up, get out, buy a guitar and form a band 'cos every single one of you is capable of loosening Cowell's stranglehold...... oh yeah, and don't forget your homework!! Teach them well, and let them lead the way, eh Chris?
Influences: Our apologies to these guys for fuckin' their great songs up....first up to show us how it SHOULD be done before being given a damn good mauling, Jelly style -

Alice Cooper - Under My Wheels

The Only Ones - Another Girl Another Planet

THE BOYS "Brickfield Nights"

There was an area of Warrington known as 'Brickfield'... we used to change song titles to suit the part of town we were playing - this one we performed as "Alternative Woolston" - sorry SLF...

And finally... a REAL treat!! We played this live! but changed the title to "Orford Boys" (starting to see a pattern here!?) Chas-and-Dave-tastic, Hersham fellas!!

Sounds Like: Just about every '70s punk band that was around at the time! (what do you expect...? - Punk's Not Dead!? - Punk never had chance of even a decent kip with this lot banging away)....We were just kids pissing about, doing other people's songs at breakneck speed, which wasn't always intentional, but it was hard to rein us all in sometimes... our wonderfully shambolic and thunderous take on Alice Cooper's "Under My Wheels" is proof of that!......
Record Label: We just did it for fun and free beer.
