About Me

Gary McFarland was a jazz composer, arranger, and vibraphonist who was active for only a decade until his untimely death under mysterious circumstances in 1971, at the age of 38.
Originally establishing himself as a jazz composer in New York City, he became increasingly moved by and interested in the new pop music sounds being produced in the 1960’s.
Seeking to move in that direction, he enraged his original jazz fans who harshly dismissed his pop experiments.
He never lived to catch on with a wider audience outside of jazz.
He produced over 30 albums for Verve, Impulse, Buddah, and his own label Skye records between the years 1960 and 1971.
