Tim Minchin’s musical strengths range from acoustic and electronic composition, through to recording and audio production, all of which have been nurtured throughout his music production degree at QUT.
Beginning violin tuition at age seven, at Roma Junior School, Tim showed talent and developed skills much faster than his peers. Later primary and secondary school brought upon the postponement of his violin career, in place of saxophone, percussion and finally guitar, which inspired him to pursue music seriously.
Having never recorded audio until first year of university, Tim developed new skills rather quickly, including “Composing for Acoustic Environments†under Dr Robert Davidson in 2005, and “Creative Recording†with Yanto Browning in 2006. His comedic instrumental piece “Surrounded†was performed by the QUT Trombone Quartet, in the Spiegeltent in July 2006, as part of the Brisbane Festival.
Over the period of the course, he has also been part of several ensembles such as QUT Big Band and QUT Wind Symphony. In January 2006, Tim assisted Dave Neil at Studio 301 in Byron Bay, during the recording of August Way’s debut album “This is the Other Worldâ€, and is now currently working on a recording project with new Brisbane rock act “Skinny Jeanâ€.
