Sandy Layne/Donna Leigh Scott: Sugar Magnolia

About Me

Sugar Magnolia is a female duo whose first release, “Southern Mystique-Filly Gumbo” on Trackside Records is garnering praise for it’s unique styling and excellent instrumentation. It is best described as American Roots Music, consisting of a little Blues, Cajun, Country, and a lot of Soul. Sugar Magnolia also founded the award winning gospel group, Fair Sister.

..

Storming out of West Texas like a “dust devil”, Sandy Layne ended up in Southern California to play Guitar or Bass in coffee houses, honky tonks, concert halls and road tours, along with singing folk, country, 50's rock & roll, and some standards. As a bass player she has performed in some of the largest country music venues in Southern California with award winning musicians, Al Bruno, Archie Francis, Steel Guitar Hall of Famers-J.D. Maness & Red Rhodes. J. D. and Leo are also in the Fender Guitar Museum in Corona, California. Sandy has also been the bass player for The Crawfish Band (led by Leo J. Eiffert, Jr.). A long time member of the Academy of Country Music, she has recently turned her talent to producing, arranging, and finally recording her own work as part of the duo on their latest album featuring some of her pals.

..

The silky, sultry voice of the duo is Donna Leigh Scott. As a theatre major at the University of Arizona, she performed in musical theater and sang in coffee houses in Tucson. She came to Southern California to work as a motion picture, stage and television actress. Her cult movie is "Track of the Moon Beast". She also worked on the Dean Martin show as a dancer, back-up singer in the country portions of his show, as well as singing back up for Loretta Lynn and worked with Tom T. Hall.

..

Sugar Magnolia appears at various venues in Southern California, but their love of the South keeps bringing them back, whether porch picking in Georgia, playing on the Bayou in Louisiana or with home folks in Tennessee. We really loved doing the Prescott, Arizona Folk Festival in 2008 doing our own segment and being part of the Sunday Morning Gospel show. We hope to return in 2009.
