He first gained major attention after the release of his debut E.P "The Essence". In 2009 his single "Tonight" reached radio recognition as it was aired on Hot 103 Jamz. J Tuck's debut album "The Life of An "C" Student" is set to release in the Spring of 2010.Biography:In an industry where being normal is rarely considered the norm, hip hop artist J Tuck finds a way to use his normalcy as an advantage "I'm just an everyday person making music about everyday life, with a dream for the better in mind, so I think that's mainly why a lot of people not only embrace my music, but also who I am as an artist, they relate"Born in Muskogee, Oklahoma, J Tuck was exposed to music at an early age. "I was always told stories about my uncles, who where famous jazz musicians so I was always aware that music was in my bloodlines"For his fifth birthday his mother purchased him a "Star Stage" which is an electronic microphone with stage lighting included, he naturally gravitated to it." I was a big Bobby Brown fan back then, I remember performing shows in front of my classmates, I had the jean jacket and all." Tuck jokingly stated "I always knew music was in me, but I never knew the passion for it would rise to the surface, I guess I was too wrapped up in sports to ever see it."At the age of 7 he and his mother moved to the city of Wichita, Kansas where Jordan excelled at sports at a rapid pace. J Tuck's passion for music wouldn't emerge until his freshmen year of high school (attended Wichita West) "I mean I remembered rapping for fun in high school, but once people started to mention my name, everyone would say I'm nice, so I decided to give it a try."Heavily inspired by artist such as Jadakiss, Jay-Z, Nas, DMX his style was often compared to an east-coast sound "being in the middle of the map, we tend to listen to artist from all areas, while a lot of people where listing to Brother Lynch, Luni Coleone, etc in their headphones, I was listening to Eminem, Wu Tang, and so on, so I think that's why I was able to surpass a lot of people lyrically, because lyrics was all I knew" Tucker said.High school talent shows and battles were key ingredients to the evolution of J Tuck as an hip hop artist "you learn a lot being in a rap battle, it's pretty much cut throat it's either win or it's a wrap, you cant lose a battle because it will never be forgotten and especially in high school they would "clown" so the battles forced me to stay on top of my pen game"Though music was his new outlet, sports was still the main focal point, Tucker attended Emporia State University where he played football, but through the heavy schedule of being a collegiate athlete he still found time for music "study hall is where I wrote mostly, it was mandatory we attended, but I had good grades so instead of studying I was writing rhymes, I have tons of notebooks full with rhymes."J Tuck would release many underground projects, but it wasn't until 2008 that he found his true voice as an artist "like a lot of artist do when we start, we base our music off of what we see, instead of what we live, meaning yes I saw people who was selling drugs, shooting guns, etc; but that wasn't my story, I had to find a way to tell my story."So "The Essence" was created a debut E.P written entirely by J Tuck himself "all of the previous projects I was working with someone else, so our ideas would combine for the purpose of a song, but The Essence was all my ideas this time there was no restraints, it was all me"The Essence would receive recognition on a national scale as it was received via internet download, from multiple hip-hop websites adding to amounts over thousands, this opened up new avenues and opportunities as he was seen performing at many venues alongside many acclaimed up and coming artist "I love performing it best part of being an artist and sharing the stage with other talented artist it brings my performance level to another level which is key"As an artist J Tuck felt a sense of arrival but still remained humble, though in his mind there was still a void missing "even though I never really made music for the radio, I honestly felt some of my music deserved to be played and wasn't getting the proper credit, naturally it frustrated me, but I just used it as motivation."That void would later be filled as 2 songs (Tonight and The Tweener) from "The Essence" caught momentum and would receive numerous spins on major radio stations on a local and national scale"the first time I heard my song on the air I actually cried no lie, if people knew they things I've went through to have a voice as an artist, it has been a long battle, but the burden has finally been lifted."he said. With things on an incline and the hip hop world taking an interest, J Tuck plans to release his next L.p titled "The Life of An C Student" this spring in hopes to continue to inspire people with his gift of music.Though he takes an average approach on day to day life and his music, the future foresees for years to come that hip-hop fans will be pleased with this (surprisingly) above average artist.
