Formed in late 2003 as a 4 piece power trio for the innumerate, The Adjournments are now a 6 piece band, and therefore bigger than The Beatles. Even if you count George Martin as a Beatle.
The Adjournments are also one of the best blues bands in the country. Founder members Syd E Fox and James ‘Big Boy’ MacDonald deliver their powerful and distinctive vocal and guitar lines respectively, aided and abetted by the thumping beats of Tom ‘Tom’ Docherty, the sturdy basslines of Mr John G, the mellifluous sax meanderings of Dr C.J. McCann, and the virtuoso piano of Steven ‘Absolutely’ Devine.
The band members have been around for a while, having previously played in unforgettable bands such as The Peace Frogs, The Tattie Bogles, Syd Fox and The Smooth Groove, Kasule, Practice McGulpin and The Mental Carryouts and, of course, The Turkey Brothers. Over the years, the members of the Adjournments have played millions of notes, some of them in the right order. The net result of this experience is a band that is bigger than the sum of its parts, capable of producing blistering, high powered Blues and gentle, delicate ballads with equal ease; and capable of infusing whatever they play with their own inimitable style.
The Adjournments debut EP, "Allegedly..." was released on 23rd February 2007, to favourable reviews. The CD has 6 tracks, samples of which are available on the player on this page. From the understated and jazzy "Turn Me On" to the blistering one-take, no overdub rendition of the "Red House", the EP shows the band on top form. At £5, you know it makes sense. The band will return to the studio in 2009 to record their first full length album, which will be a mixture of original material and covers. You know you can’t wait that long. And while we're on the subject of parting you from your cash, Syd would like to alert you to the fact that his new book, 'Notes From The Blogosphere', is available now. He insists that it's hilarious, if you like that kind of thing. And even if you don't, at a very reasonable £6.22, it's an ideal Christmas gift for somone you don't like very much, or don't want to spend much money on.
