About Me

"Kosmos is breaking new ground" fRoots 2007
Kosmos is an innovative string trio performing its own compositions, arrangements and improvisations. Inspired by traditional music, the ensemble offers a unique sound free from borders and labels. Kosmos explores the boundaries of Western Classical and Contemporary music with Eastern European, Gypsy, Balkan, Klezmer and Tango influences. Its baptism of fire at the Hydra Rebetika Festival in Greece (televised) in 2005 has led to performances at Portello River Festival in Padua two years running (also televised), broadcasts on Classic FM, performances at the Jewish International Festival and International Concert Season in Leeds, the Wales Millenium Centre, recitals at music clubs and societies across England including the Chichester Festivities, Pulse Festival in Suffolk, the Deal, Ryedale, Hexham, Swaledale and North Wales International festivals. London performances have included world premieres at St James’s Piccadilly, the Royal Albert Hall (‘Ignite’ series), The Spitz in Spitalfields, the London Fiddle Conference as well as at London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts featuring a rope artist. Kosmos is committed to expanding contemporary repertoire and is thrilled to have collaborated with many composers; Robert Fokkens, Ben Oliver, Nadja Gabriela Plein and Owen Bourne have all written and dedicated pieces for the group. Kosmos is also proud to have participated in the late Yehudi Menuhin’s Live Music Now! scheme, which promotes the benefits of live music for all. Based on traditional music from Gypsy, Jewish, Balkan and Tango traditions, Kosmos delivers a unique mix of entrancing dance rhythms, soulful improvisation and Gypsy passion with inimitable panache and virtuoso technique.
"Such is the quality and mix of music across the eleven tracks that Mazi Mazi easily stands repeated listening" RocknReel
