The Royalties

About Me

The Royalties (1995-1999) were founded in 1995 by a group of Hillsborough High School Students. Following in the footsteps of Bigger Thomas and Inspecter 7, The Royalties were one of the first ska bands based out of New Jersey. The group played their first show in 1996 under the name Ska Skank Redemption. Shortly after they added Dan Ross and became know as The Royalties. The band played over 100 shows through the mid to late 1990s, almost all in the New Jersey, New York and Philadelphia areas. In 1997 the band recorded the 7 inch record entitled "Welcome to New Jersey" featuring two songs, the do It yourself anthems "Avoid the Crime" and "SSR DIY". The Record received college airplay throughout the country and put the band on the map in the growing ska scene. In 1998 The Royalties recorded a full length album entitled "Endless Nights On The Town". In May 1999, shortly after the album was released The Royalties played their last show. The Royalties used all the money they made from merchandise sales and shows to produce and record their own music. The Royalties also never played a show without a member or with a replacement member, something very rare for an 8 piece ska band. The Royalties "died" too young and may have made a big name for themselves if they kept it all together. In the end the band and hopefully their fans have some wonderful memories that will last a lifetime. Members of The Royalties went on to play in Streetlight Manifesto, One Cool Guy, Midtown and various other side side projects. 7 inch records, full length CDs and pins are still available, email us for information.Started out with a bunch of friends and stayed that way for a few years!! Say hi and get back in touch with us, 5 of the 8 in the top 8 are ex Royalties members! Hope everyone is well!!! Love, The Royalties!
