About Me

Mexicana y white queer woman with passion for change, simple living, justice, the Earth, arte and good company.i'm winding down my Saturn return with the dirty 30 close on the horizon. changed my life radically over the last 6 mos and am finally loving it. spend a lot of time alone. occasionally hang out with my nextdoor neighbors. learning to cook more stuff and never go out to eat. drink more light beer, less liquor. working at a nature center 40 miles away. learning about local flowers, trees & birds & crap like that. love being able to hit the highway and visit my folks on the weekends. i fall asleep to the sound of train horns blaring. i wake up to the sound of train horns blaring & hordes of mourning doves. i draw buildings around San Antonio with my drawing class. reading several books at at time. planning to do a masters in Political Science. make my own espresso nowadays. spend a fair amount of time with people over 50. not resisting the return of my Texas accent. trying to develop inner calm. dream about owning a lil piece of land one day. jeez...i sound boring!

My Interests

pushin' myself, crackin' you up, quiet & stillness, making life more fair, good cooking & eating, chillaxin', sunshine & warm weather, untold histories, hot smart people, drawing, growth & change, politics, conquering fear (currently my fear of big cockroaches), classic rock karaoke, sweet actions, newspapers, taking photos, teaching, UFOs, writing, fighting, breathing

I'd like to meet:

everyone. including but not limited to: nuanced people who f$ck up categories, Texans for Obama, queers, my grandfathers who both left before i got here, old friends, new friends, theunapologeticmexican.org, progressives who will work with everyone, everyday comedians, cool Texans who can teach me how to shoot, hypothyroiders, journalists, optimists, pest control technicians, experts on their own experiences, stylish strangers, organ donors, people studying political science, young nature-loving types

Music:

a very wide range as long as it's good. the first cassette i ever had was MJ's Thriller. the last song i downloaded was Steve Earle's "San Antonio Girl". in the car it's the 4 new mix cds from dean & jadon jackson & also Lupe Fiasco. the other night i got to meet Archie Bell of Archie Bell and the Drells, a Houston soul legend. and recently i saw Los Tigres at the San Antonio rodeo. Big Country (by Big Country) is my Saturn return theme song but i think i'm finally ready for a new theme. my neighbor just introduced me to country bad girl Miranda Lambert and it sure goes good with the scenery on the way to my job.

Movies:

My Neighbor Totoro, Harold & Kumar Go to Whitecastle, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Good Will Hunting, Quincenera, Lone Star, Bamboozled, The Breakfast Club, Habla Con Ella, Billy Elliot, Ma Vie en Rose, Lost in Translation, No Country for Old Men, Bend it Like Beckham, The Full Monty, Transamerica, Zoolander, Juno, The Great Gatsby, Run Lola Run

Television:

The Wire & Curb Your Enthusiasm dvds, Oprah (my alcohol-free afternoon pick-me-up), Super Nanny. Now if I had cable right now you could erase some of those and replace with the mind-candy of HGTV, BRAVO and DISCOVERY (Dirty Jobs w/Mike Rowe & How Things Work). And Flight of the Conchords! and Battlestar Galactica, wherever it went.

Books:

Check me out on goodreads.com. Right now I'm into some self-helpy junk and a book on native plants of the Texas hill country region. Also I sometimes find religion here:

Heroes:

People who walk the talk. Those who are brave and reflect their words with their deeds. People who have survived some historical trauma and are still here. My Mom and Dad and all my grandparents, friends & relatives who had it rough. Elderly folks and working moms and families organizing at Yesler Terrace. Elaine Brown, Amy Goodman, the NJ4 and Lt.Ehren Watada. People who have survived the Saturn Return! Strong-ass Women who challenge bullshit and yes this includes Hillary too.
