ABOUT THE BAND
Motion Picture Soundtrack are an unsigned alternative rock band from Canterbury,
Kent.
Having previously worked with Hugh Jones (Echo and the Bunnymen, I am Kloot) and Dan Austin
(Doves, Massive Attack, Oceansize), Motion Picture Soundtrack spent much of 07/08 making their debut
album, 'The Shapes We Fear Are Of Our Own', in Copenhagen, London & the U.S, with Paul Schroeder (The Stone Roses, The Verve), Cenzo
Townshend (Editors, Bloc Party, Klaxons) & Bob Ludwig (RATM, Radiohead, Tool...).
Their live experience covers over 150 dates nationwide, as well as appearances at the Lounge
on the Farm and Kent Music festivals (Z008 - supporting Pendulum, The Hives, Funeral For A Friend, The Cribs...).
2008/2009 sees the digital
release of 'Departure', the bands debut single, and their first album 'The Shapes We Fear Are Of Our Own'.
WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING
"Soaring, epic tunes. They Could be really big. One to watch out for!"
- Steve Harris (XFM)
"Channelling the spirit of Doves, Editors and Interpol, Motion Picture Soundtrack are from
Canterbury in Kent and cite Arcade Fire and Sigur Rós among their influences. There's a
similar widescreen sensibility at work, as the intense and panoramic surge of their track
Departure comes at you like a shower of knives."
- Road to V (Festival)
"Not since Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb" has such an intense feeling of longing, loss and loneliness been poured into a song with such passion and integrity. The results are spellbinding. Utterly beautiful..."
- Stephen Morris - Reviewer for BBC Introducing
"This is one of the best bands I have heard this year. With memories of John Martyn, Talk Talk
and Radiohead - and with Motion Picture Soundtrack’s original style - these tracks sound fresh
and focused. The band deserve to do well."
- Phill Brown M.B.E (Engineer: David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley)
"Well impressed. Really good song writing & music, and a band that should definitely be heard!"
- Jase Burns (Kerrang! Radio)
"Motion Picture Soundtrack are going from strength to strength. We can only expect exciting
things from a band I am proud to call local."
- Tom Kirkby (BBC Kent Introducing)
"Startlingly beautiful."
- Neill Barston (Kent Messenger)
"Trust the cutting guitars in the terrific single 'Departure', take them as a first guidepost and you will enter the dark, black world, which the album-title 'The Shapes We Fear Are Of Our Own' already hints..."
- Andreas (SoundMag.De) - 7/10 - ALBUM OF THE WEEK
"...an intense sounding soundscape of an album - mournful in places, uplifting in others, but utterly glorious throughout...Listen to it. Wallow in it. Bathe in it. This is gorgeous stuff..."
- Album review for BBC Introducing - Stephen Morris
"...a majestically epic sound to rival even the aforementioned Icelandic outfit (Sigur Ros)... is surely one of the darkest, most haunting albums you are likely to hear all year..."
- TMM
…This will be their landmark album, as it’s so brilliantly sculptured, so alive with sound and emotion, and touches on so many levels…this is Motion Picture Soundtrack, dramatic, glorious and epic…
- Album Review by Mica Jones - INDIE-STRY
“…executed with such visceral aplomb and utterly expert production values that it could so easily be mistaken for an experienced group’s recording for a major label… surely a group as accomplished as this Kent quartet deserve recognition…â€

4 / 5 – LastBroadcast.co.uk
"Big, bold and clever sums up this remarkable album from Motion Picture Soundtrack…this album is powerful, putting a lot of top selling artists to shame and is something to come back to again and again, whenever you feel the need to get lost and totally consumed by the beautiful music…"
