GOBLIN

About Me

..
“Now they will know why they are afraid of the dark. Now they learn why they fear the night.” – James Earl Jones
"Goblin sounds like a saw hacking through the face of God. This is only for fans of true underground Death Metal. For all others the consequences would be fatal." Mark Odechuck-Paineater
"GOBLIN fuckin' GOBLIN! This band is hacking cows in half within a second or less. Heavy, brutal and dark. Uaaarrrghhh, GOBLIN makes me wanna kill my neighbors with bare hands. I can see the blood drippin' from my monitor while I'm listening to the GOBLIN tracks. Sick! Let the album kill!" -Tim Mohr
I just wanted to let everyone know that Goblin’s demo “Sewn Together…Torn Apart” has been officially released by Matthias Weigand and Ecocentric Records (Germany). For most of you, this will be the first chance you will get to hear this recording in its entirety, due to the fact that this demo wasn’t really circulated by the band because I, Sam Biles, basically “got excited” about our second full-length release (“Born to Darkness” LP) that ended up never making it to release. So, in effect, this demo, which has become a kind of “cult classick”, got “side-stepped” until now. Beware!
This release has new artwork via a true warrior of the underground Seanocide (CTHUWULF), and I have to say, he has really outdone himself on this shit, it is very fitting for the depravity and honesty contained within. Also, as well as the tracks included on the original self-released demo, this release will include a variety of out-takes, unreleased tracks and demos. Thanks for your time. I will post any new info about this release as it comes in. Or you can also visit www.cxc.info . Grind On…

HISTORY OF HORROR
Goblin was born in the summer of '97. When I (Sam Biles) and my good friend, and very talented guitarist Gary Zywicki started getting together and working on songs for a possible "pretend live" album/demo for fun. My other band "Hideous Mangleus"had recently finished up our first full length CD in our, at that time, 8 yr. history in the underground. It was time for a break. (Which will soon be silenced, but that is another story. Info at www.hideousmangleus.com ). So the opportunity was there, and we took it. After abandoning our "pretend live" cover song idea, hehe, because our originals were sounding very promising. We kinda just wrote a bunch of parts. And slowly but surely started piecing together songs. We didn't really have any "project"/demo/CD in mind. We just wrote for the love of writing. FOR THE LOVE OF METAL!!! Although, our music isn't exactly "Metal". Our heart is every bit as metal as Accept's ever was. We've taken our childhood/adult passion for heavy music (Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Frost, Stench, etc, etc) and decided to try our hand at writing the best "Metal" we can. Our sound may be a bit "abrasive" to "the Metal purist" due to our low tuning, and "Yeti with his nuts in a bear trap" vokills. But, O'well, this is an Underground band, what can we say. We've taken the heaviness of songs of Old, like "God of Thunder." And combined it with the unbridled fury of underground music (DeathMetal, Grind, Crust, Doom, etc) like so many others before us. But, we assure you this is not just another UnderGround band. "Killing is our Business...and Business is Good." We are here to make the heaviest shit you've ever heard! That is our commitment to you the UG fan!!! The demo is out, that is the first step in what we hope will be a force to be reckoned with in the underground. Goblin is currently on indefinate hiatus, but we will keep you updated!!!
(Note: I apologize to those of you that viewed this site under the impression this was the Italian band Goblin. When we started this band I was under the impression their name was "The Goblins" (the way they were labeled in Suspiria). No disrespect intended.)

Band Members:

Gary Zywicki - Lead, Rhythm, Bass, Programming Gary started playing guitar at fifteen, inspired by metal masters Tony Iommi and Randy Rhoads. Through out his late teens/early twenties he played in various metal outfits like Misanthropy," Wretch," Black Hat Factory," etc. None of which really gained any recognition but where valuable learning experiences and forged this diehard metal fan into one of the underground's most promising talents. Some of his favorite bands are Sabbath, Priest, Crue, NYC Hardcore and Metal, Pantera, etc. His musical philosophy is everything has been done before so I just use what comes out and go with it." Expounding, I try to write evil" sounding riffs. And, after you hear some off the demonic riffing and leads on Goblin's Sewn Together...Torn Apart" demo you'll surely agree this warrior has surely succeeded with his diabolical plot. For more info/contact Gary at [email protected].

Sam Biles - Vokills Sam's interest in music started early on in life. At five he recalls sitting on his father's lap and picking out his first album, KISS "Destroyer." (Which got destroyed in a Show and Tell" accident in kindergarten, but that's another story). From there on out it was all downhill. The older kids" in the neighborhood introduced him to such greats as Sabbath and Priest. Hours were spent around one of those big oldskool record players, that was more a piece of furniture than a component." Air guitaring and singing along to "the Lord of the Wasteland" and I am Iron Man." Surviving the whole disco bullshit (although the BeeGees are sick!) and phasing into the new wave of Heavy Bands" like Iron Maiden, Crue, Metallica, Anthrax, Slayer, Kreator, etc. And, also getting introduced to Hardcore and Industrial styles via Agnostric Front, The Misfits, D.R.I., Samhain, 7 Seconds, The Accused, Skinny Puppy, FrontLine Assembly, etc. Remaining just an avid music fan until some great local (Pittsburgh) acts (Half Life, DoomWatch, Dream Death, etc) sparked the thought or the possibility of being involved with the creation of music. So one fateful evening in 87, Sam and some friends got together to form his first band "Dead Baby Korpses." Being naive, we wanted to make sure no one confused us with the Dead Brain Cells?, hehe. It was bloody awful but it was fun as fuck and taught me a lot about being a singer and music in general. After D.B.K. broke up in early '89. Sam reformed with friends Joel and Feev to create the now legendary Hideous Mangleus. Putting out such great slabs as the We Live.." and Unearthing Grandma's Grave" Eps. And later, their All Your Friends are Dead" CD on Ecocentric records (available at [email protected] and also through Sam). (Hideous is currently in a state of limbo) Aging his growl the whole time through. In the summer of '97 Sam got together with old friend Gary to form a "Metal" band. As you are about to know, the rest is history!!! To contact Sam write [email protected]. Just to mention, Sam's fave grind/death singer or his influence for trying to have the most bestial growl possible is Lee Dorian of "the real" Napalm Death. Ross from Immolation was also an influence early on. And Bill Crooks from Cryptic Slaughter. As far as influence on stage presence and theatrics, OzzY and Gene Simmons surely ring a bell.
Influences: SABBATH, PRIEST, PAINEATER, CELTIC FROST, PANTERA, OZZY, ETC...
Sounds Like: VERY HEAVY METAL!!!
