No 3 "John Peel"
helped me find the switch in my head to get my ears working properly when hearing music. Although popular and successful he was considered the champion of the underdogs of the music industry those with something to say, were determind to say it and not really that fussed at who many heard... not something record companies found appealing

no 4 Pizzaro and the Spanish Conquistadores
.... irresepective of the wrongs of invading a foreign country and destroying it's people.. you ever thought of the logisitics in 1500 of taking a few boats travel to the other end of your known world with no maps no telephones, internet, faxes or phrase books, in expremely hostile conditions far unlike your own country no roads, mounted on horse back and manage to completely over throw and annex half a continent from tierra del fuego to somewhere up in colorado in less than a century... it's taken the americans 3 years to get nowhere in Iraq

No 4 The Cathars
History is written by the victors... quite true in the case of the Cathars, a "religion" or way of life popular in the 12th century based in the Languedoc area of France but fairly widespread across south west europe. basically they believed the planet was created by a lesser god, who we know as the devil, through shunning material wealth or existence those who were good would die and go to the next world those who failed came back again for another go. They did not accept the old testament which they felt was a book of the devil and followed the gospel of st John, Jesus was a manifestation, and held no value. In the end they viewed the world was created a prison and only those who were pure would escape to heaven.. those who failed came back to try again becoming very popular. it became very popular supported by much of the aristocracy as well as the normal peoples, in 1200 the Catholic church claimed them heratics and initiated a crusade by northern french nobleman who warred for 40 years, many cathars were given the choice of conversion to catholicism or be thrown on fires the last cathar preist was executed in 1320. No written records remain of the cathars or their philosophies, what is known has been in the main recovered from the contemporary texts of the catholic church....hardly a balanced and objective record that will be then

No 5 "Brandy and Coke"
The Welsh Border Collie - true underdogs born on farms and designed for running around after sheep.. these two came from a nearby farm to me where a young bitch had an unexpected pregnancy at a year old and after a day of having the pups abandoned them, the farmer gave them away for fear if he could not get rid of them he would have to have had them put down...... anyway they are with me now, 9 years old and live the life of the country squire rather than freezing to death in a sack in a wet ditch.
No 6 "Lilith"
Another woman getting all the bad press... some claim she was Adams first wife who was banished because she refused to be subserviant during sexual intercourse and lie underneath..A female demon of the night who supposedly flies around searching for newborn children either to kidnap or strangle them. Also, she sleeps with men to seduce them into propagating demon sons. One story is that God created Adam and Lilith as twins joined together at the back. She demanded equality with Adam, failing to achieve it, she left him in anger.Even though the story of Lilith disappeared from the canonical Bible, her daughters the lilim haunted men for over a thousand years.Supposedly they were lusty she-demons who copulated with men in all their dreams, causing nocturnal emissions....oh to meet a daughter of Lilith

No 7 "iPod"
I have noticed an increasing tendency for disaffected folks to lay into Apple because the iPod is so succesful stating such dominence is some kind of evil doing. Apple of course are a computing underdog that each time comes back with better and more useable ideas 2 or 3 years ahead of its wintel counterparts, early adoption of Ethernet,USB, Firewire, DVD writers, Wireless and TFT technologies for standard as well as dropping old stuff like floppy disks well ahead of the field are examples of where they set a trail everyone else follows. The iPods greatest opponent is Microsoft who although are not making any rival hardware are desperate to see global adoption of windows media as an international standard through windows users so they can then get fat on royalty fees from the music companies for licensing as well as in return offering the record industry tools that could disable and make useless songs of unauthorised origin the windows player can identify as having been file shared .. in spite of the large financial resources microsoft is directing through the windows media friendly digital music players to encourage them to lead on the campaign to mis inform increase hostility and disuade prospective ipod owners.. their efforts are failing and more people are moving to and choosing iPod and iTunes to solve their digital music problems
more underdogs to follow again
