About Me
In the beginning...
It seems that DJ DAZ, the winner of "BEST UNDERGROUND DJ" at the 2006 URBAN MUSIC AWARDS, keeps going from strength to strength.
Daz started off mixing at the age of 16, during the peak of the Drum n Bass Jungle explosion, at which time, many of his after school activities took place in the basement of Central Londons BLACKMARKET RECORDS. Although playing records was just a hobby for him, he soon developed a passion for it and once he had saved enough money from his Saturday job at WH Smiths he purchased his first pair of turntables.
Along with long-time friend and fellow DJ, DJ Venom, Daz went on to play at various house parties around the area. As the word spread about his talent for mixing, he was eventually encouraged to get a DJ spot at local radio station AVENUES FM, which was a legal station commissioned with a temporary license, broadcast from the Avenues Youth Club in West London. Playing Hip Hop and R&B, it was here where he was given his first big opportunity to get the name DJ Daz out to the masses. Soon afterwards the house parties turned to clubs, such as West End favourites, SW1 CLUB, DENIM and THE MAYFAIR CLUB to name but a few.
The Breakthrough
As his experience became more diverse so did his musical catalogue as he began to incorporate different musical genres to his range such as House and Garage, Soul and Rare Groove. It was this versatile approach that enabled him to get more bookings and in turn he was taken much more seriously on a professional level as he began to play along side such names as the ILL KIDS, THE SO SOLID CREW, CK FLASH, CHILLI SOURCE and JEFF SCHUMAN.
As well as being a 3rd year design Degree student at the London College of Printing, 2001 had really seen his rise to fame in the DJ world. A chance meeting with an old friend in January of 2001 got him a weekly residency at WKD BAR in Camden, London. He also went on to play at various radio stations such as ITCH FM, LIGHTNING FM and West London community Radio Station JUICE FM, where he had been asked to be a guest on well-known West London DJ, L.A. s show. They clicked together so well they decided to form the New Xperience Crew, where they took an innovative and popular stance to presenting, bringing both the nightclub vibe and the topical and witty talk radio style together as one. It was this formula that they brought to the 2001 Notting Hill Carnival as a part of the Avenues FM Float, where they literally took the streets of West London by storm.
Daz's big break came towards the end of 2001. He was asked to DJ at R&B supremo; Trevor Nelsons Rhythm Nation Tour on October 3rd 2001 at Londons famous HAMMERSMITH PALAIS) were he, along with fellow crew members played along side Shortee Blitz, Dane Bowers, The K2 Family, MIS-TEEQ and Trevor Nelson himself. The following month he was asked to play at the November 2001 URBAN MUSIC SHOWCASE where he worked with BBC Radio 1s Tim Westwood. Shortly after this, he was receiving bookings at venues across Leeds, Birmingham and Telford.
The Future for Dj Daz
Daz has since gone on to gain residencies in some of the West End of Londons prestigious venues such as NYT, ROCOCO, TRAP and OPIUM, as well as being booked to perform at some of the UKs biggest club nights such as SMOOVE, SOUL DEEP and BUBBLICIOUS. In addition he has gone on to present highly successful radio shows on both North Londons Y2K FM and WWW.INVINCIBLERADIO.COM as well as becoming a promoter in his own right, putting on events across the UK, and continuing to push his self promoted club nights to new and exciting heights.
As more positive attention seems to be focused on the man that many have hailed as the next big thing, the future most definitely seems bright for DJ DAZ.Featured Events
