Band Members: DJ Micky G began his love affair with the decks at the tender age of 17. Barely legal, he landed his first gig at Barfly, a small but bustling Johannesburg club, a mere two months after he started to spin. Wowing the crowed and wooing the dancefloor with his intriguing technique and track selection, Micky G was spurred on to follow the inevitable dream of becoming a South African house DJ- and a fine one at that!
Micky G spent the next 4 years breaking legs at gigs around the city; grabbing any available deckspace at venues such as Aqua Lounge, Roxy's, Groove Bar and Red Café, and playing as a regular guest at Sun City’s "Silhouettes". He indulged in each experience; mastering his mixing style, embracing and combining his love for the Deep, Tech, Minimal, Funky, and Electro house styles and set dancefloors on fire with his explosive sound.
Inspired by the local and international greats of our house music generation; Micky Slim, Eric Morrilo, Sebastian Ingrosso & Steve Angello, Roger D’Lux, Ryan Dent, and Craig De Sousa, Micky G’s vision is to create a new and innovative live act on the dance music scene; feeding the crowd what they want, when they want it! His mantra is: If they’re dancing, dance with them- connect with them on more than one level.
Being versatile, he can easily switch between vinyl and digital, although his heart lies with the “old school†black plates, on which he is now buffering his own scratching method. And after discovering a knack for producing, Micky G is making even more noise; putting his sound engineering skills to use, and producing some quality house tracks!
At only 22, the man; way ahead of his time, has fine-tuned and manufactured a sound that can only be described as “clearly, Micky Gâ€. His humble attitude, dedication and perseverance to make his mark on the South African house industry is sure to get him some well deserved attention and see his dream of empowering the dance scene being realised. He’s sticking around, no matter what- and if you don’t see him first, you’ll definitely be hearing him from far far away!Words By: Holly Jadewww.myspace.com/theponderingblonde
Influences:"All that exists now is clubs, drugs, pubs and parties. I've got 48 hours off from the world, man. I'm gonna blow steam out of my head like a screaming kettle. I'm gonna talk codshit to strangers all night. I'm gonna lose the plot on the dancefloor, the free radicals inside me are freaking man! Tonight I'm Jip Travolta, I'm Peter Popper, I'm going to Never Never Land with my chosen family, man. We're going to get more spaced out than Neil Armstrong ever did. Anything could happen tonight, you know? This could be the best night of my life! I've got 73 quid in my backburner. I'm gonna wax the lot, man. The milky bars are on me! Yeah! NICE ONE BRUVA!!!!!"
Sounds Like:We wanna go somewhere else. We're not threatened by people anymore. All our insecurities have evaporated. We're in the clouds now. We're wide open. We're spacemen orbiting the earth. The world looks beautiful from here, man. We're nympholeptics, desiring for the unobtainable. We risk sanity for moments of temporary enlightenment. So many ideas. So little memory. The last thought killed by anticipation of the next. We embrace an overwhelming feeling of love. We flow in unison. We're together. I wish this was real. We want a universal level of togetherness, where we're comfortable with everyone. We're in rhythm. Part of a movement. A movement to escape. We wave goodbye. Ultimately, we just want to be happy. Heh, yeah^ - hang on, what the fuck was I just talking about? - "Jip"
