In June, Ari (Guitars) and Vidir (Guitars) contacted Arni (bass guitar) about starting a soft rock band influenced mainly by Pink Floyd, and he accepted since they had all worked at the same place together and knew each other quite well as well as Arni and Ari had been together in a Maiden cover band at one time so they knew each others playing styles pretty well.
The drummer at that time was a friend of Ari and Vidir that seemed to lack both time and enthusiasm for the project, and so in late July they decided to call on a drummer (Lee) who had been in the Maiden cover band with Arni and Ari and asked him if he was interested in joining their little group, which he hesitantly accepted since he wasn't at all sure if that was the kind of music he wanted to play.
Almost as soon as Lee joined SR they lost their rehearsal space, so they got themselves another one, a better one, and the music style changed along with the rehearsal space and they are now playing a kind of old-school type of heavy metal.
On October 4th of 2005 disaster struck! Ãrni the bass player had an accident at work and was rushed to the hospital for treatment. In the incident Ãrni's right ankle was badly broken, his left shin and very bad bruising damage on his right thigh. Ãrni was in the hospital for 14 weeks following the accident. Silent Rivers kept on writing new material, and incidentally, while in the hospital, Ãrni wrote some riffs as well and one was a perfect fit for one of the songs written by the other boys at that time.
Unbelievably Ãrni recovered pretty fast and was playing his bass guitar like a madman on SR's debut concert on march 31st 2006.
Late year 2006 Silent Rivers found a promising young singer with a very long name, Þorgils Óttar Vilberg Baldursson.
Silent Rivers have recorded their first album named after the band, and it is to be released in April of 2008.
In August 2008 SR and Óttar Vilberg parted ways due to artistic differences. And so the search for a new singer has commenced.
