MIXOLOGY 10 TOUR!!!

About Me

In 1993, a Conservatorium of Music student walked into a club. This club was different from the other bars and pubs she’d been into before. When she opened the door the music was pumping, the throbbing dance floor was packed of people all facing the dj. It was hot, it was sweaty, people were smiling. A tear rolled down the students face as she realized she’d come home. And at that moment, BeXta was born. Within 6 months, BeXta had bought some music equipment, began writing, and performed her first live PA, to a crowd of 3000. She wasn’t nervous; it was just what she did. In 1995 she released her first single “Lunar Tango” which received high rotation on Triple J, and she played her first Big Day Out. In 1997 she signed to Sony and released “Questron” followed by the “Skirmish Live EP” in 1999, which entered the ARIA singles charts top 100, a rarity for local dance at the time. Other Sony releases were Drum Beats vinyl (1998), Make It Phunkee (1999) and Music Makers (2001)
During this time, BeXta was playing live PA’s in home town Brisbane (later making Sydney home in 1997), and was starting to play interstate as well. In 1997 she expanded her skills to dj-ing and settled in to regular gigs and touring almost immediately. She was also remixing other artists, including co-writing a remix of “The Winner Is..” the top 10 track announcing the Sydney Olympics.
In 2001 BeXta signed with Central Station Records to release the first of what would be the Mixology series. Mixology 1 was released in 2001, and to this date, is one of the most successful and longest running dance compilations in Australia’s history.
BeXta signed with Recover UK at the same time, and released “One for the Road” with an Andy Farley remix. This track ended up a 2001 anthem on BBC Radio One’s anthem list, and received rave reviews. It was released in several countries and included on many compilations, such as the Nukleuz Ibiza compilation. BeXta also remixes UK artist Wavestorm’s “Rock the Party”.
By 2004, BeXta had become a staple at the big parties and clubs across the land like Gatecrasher, Gods Kitchen, Transmission, Utopia, Enchanted, Advenj’ah, Homebake, and Splendor in the Grass, and was a regular on the Big Day Out tour. The time had come to release an album. “Conversations with Ones and Zeroes” was released on her newly founded label (later named to Mixology Digital Records). It reached no 8 on the national independent ARIA charts. She had also remixed artists such as ACDC and Icehouse by this point, as well as taking on several international gigs, and by 2006 had played in Canada, NZ, the UK, and Europe.
In 2006, BeXta put her label in top gear, and signed up other artists in the hopes to encourage more young Aussie producers to release music. BeXta also released collaborations she had done with Dave Joy (Club One), Switzerland’s Van Der Traxx (Silent Dance) and Public Domain (Sunstorm). BeXta had solidified world wide distribution for her label on sites like iTunes, and the biggest dance download sites. Her most recent release on Mixology Digital Records was a re-release and new mixes of One for the Road which received 4 stars in Dj Mag again, and rave reviews from some of the international dj heavyweights.
Now, in 2007, we see the release of Mixology 10 – a milestone for the series. This triple cd pays tribute to the music that has come before, and takes you on a journey from where BeXta has come, and shows us where BeXta is going. BeXta’s label is on track and her own release schedule is packed, as is her touring, which is set to take on more of an international flavor in 2008, as will her own music.
