"Storm represents compassion, strength, wisdom, science, ancestral spirituality, mysticism, afrocentrism, mathematics, and majestic beauty. Storm is the power of the third eye. This is the power that is me. I am Storm.
My poetic style is scientifically designed to take your third eye on a universal, angelic journey through the souls of the melanin ancestors. As your soul and spirit flows and travels through the universe, your solar essence shines within."
Locally and nationally known spoken word artist Storm got his first chance to shine at Long Beach State University in 1997 by opening for the legendary grandfathers of both hip hop and spoken word, The Last Poets, but his own career as a spoken word artist began much earlier.
Storm first wrote his own poetry in 1992, but his first live performance occurred two years later in Los Angeles at Leimert Park’s own World Stage. Later, in 1996, he began actively performing at open mic venues while studying history at Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. The following year, he transferred to California State University at Long Beach where he continued to develop his talent by honing his writing skills and performing at campus venues.
After performing with The Last Poets in 1997, his passion for spoken word began to rage. He would perform at numerous venues and festivals around the Los Angeles area for the next ten years. Over those years, he has performed at some of L.A.’s biggest night spots as a featured artist, and has also collaborated with some of the hottest new artists in the hip-hop and soul genres.
His undeniable talent coupled with his love for grassroots activism makes Storm a powerful force within his community. He is a devoted community activist who has given his time and talent to local and national efforts to end hunger, eradicate injustice, and fight homelessness. He is also a staunch supporter and devoted participant in the Black Arts Movement.
As Storm’s inner essence continues to shine, his talent also continues to grow. His future plans include major recording collaborations as well as his own solo project. Since his soulful style has universal appeal, he also foresees a multi-city run as well as an international tour that includes at least four countries on three continents.
