The Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse

About Me

The Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse is a premier chamber ensemble. Started in 1997 as a student quartet at the University of Southern Mississippi, the quartet has improved and evolved into a widely renowned chamber group. This past year, the Hornsmen performed at venues such as the 2006 Southeast Horn Workshop in Natchitoches, Louisiana, the Dogwood Fine Arts Festival in Dowogiac, Michigan, the Second Sunday concert on WILL FM in Champaign/Urbana, Illinois, and a wide selection of notable colleges in the Mid-South. This season, they are taking their show to a total of 13 states, including their longest tour ever across the Southeastern and Midwestern United States. In the attempt to successfully attract listeners both from within and outside the classical genre, the quartet seeks to expose its audience to an array of musical styles. They play classical transcriptions of composers like Bach, Mozart, and Strauss, light-hearted numbers and even humorous pieces by composers such as P.D.Q. Bach, Herman Jeurissen, and Lowell Shaw, as well as playing the traditional staples of the horn quartet repertoire. They seek to expand the boundaries of horn quartet music by performing cutting edge new music for quartet and new transcriptions. They branch out from the traditional by performing pieces of different styles. Examples are choral music, pop tunes, jazz, and even bagpipes music! In the quartet's history, the Four Hornsmen of the Apocalypse have performed and competed across the Midwestern, Midsouthern, and Southeastern United States. They have competed in and won many chamber music competitions, premiered many new works for quartet, and played countless concerts in public schools to share the quartet repertoire. The Hornsmen pride themselves in their ability to connect with the audience and break the traditional barrier between the musicians and the listener. They enjoy thrilling and exciting audiences with comedy and overpowering musicianship and technique. They are dedicated to bringing music, knowledge, and humor to children of all ages.Click on the horn below to see our website at www.4hornsmen.com for more information and to hear more music!
