He is currently on the editorial team of MAGUS MAGAZINE, formerly working with ORACLE MAGAZINE, he is also a member of the PINK FISH ENSEMBLE
(an experimental art project), FUCK (the Foundation for Unrestricted Carnal Knowledge, a sexpol network) and works with WYRD VISTAS on Psychogeographical Esoteric Walks and other projects and occassionally with the Order of Kaos and the Foolish People theatre company. In addition to all this he is a qualified and practising astrologer. And probably lots of other stuff he's forgotten or is so secret he can't mention. All of which are of course interrelated and Quantumly Entangled in a Wyrd Dionysiac Vine. He also writes, gives lectures and teaches philosophy when he can find the spare time! Watcher : Hello, Cetoak?
Kaotec : Umm, he couldn't make it, I'm Kaotec
Watcher : Ahhh, Frater Sar Kaotec, I've heard a lot about you.
Kaotec : Nothing Good I hope?
Watcher : Well I'm glad it's you we were wondering how we would get a 15ft octopoid alien into the office. What exactly is your relationship?
Kaotec : Cetoak is both my Holy Guardian Demon and my Shadow Self, which in the system of the ATSN is the same thing. He also protects me from the detritus of My Space, and occasionally eats some of it!
Watcher : I see, eats in a nice or nasty way?
Kaotec : It depends whose being eaten. Though I usually only eat out with friends.
Watcher : Hmm tell us a little about the ATSN. I'm a little puzzled about the Shadow – Higher Self relationship too, is your Ego not part of it?
Kaotec : I don't like the term Higher Self, it implies hierarchy, which I reject, everything is equal, above, below, 'good', 'bad', creative, destructive. I'm no dualist, its only in timing and right relation that ethics adhere. So I'd call it my Deeper or Broader Self. As for the Shadow – Ego divide, well of course its both, but as I more or less know my Ego (my manifest Self, as opposed to the persona or mask), so when it presents itself it manifests thru my Shadow, the excluded part. It also doesn't like the status quo much so likes to mash it up given the option. ;)
Watcher : I see. You could tell us but you'd have to shoot us?
Kaotec : I'd have to fucking eat you! The nasty way!!
Watcher : ;-) So tell us about yourself, why 'Frater Sar Kaotec'?
Kaotec : Well Frater is the standard title of a member of an enlightened esoteric group, its also an anagram of 'farter', I like the ambiguity here! It literally means 'brother', though as I'm an upgrading rather than a downgrading egalitarian I prefer to add Sar or 'king', a title for grandmaster used in some occult orders. I like to think that everyone in the groups I work with is a 'brother king' or 'queen'. Kaotec just reflects my origins in Kaos Magic.
Watcher : Cool. So are you a Libertarian?
Kaotec : No, I'm an Anarchist, a sort of Bakunin meets Robert Anton Wilson type. Libertarian could include Free Marketeers, Anarcho-Capitalists or Ego-Fascists, I'd rather not be associated with such egocentric twats.
Watcher : What about the Dionysian Underground, what's all that about it?
Kaotec : It's a loose 'grapevine' of individuals and working groups, or 'clusters', who work with the Dionysian ethos, as each individual understands it. Its basically about affirming the non-dualistic, primal, spontaneous and immanent over dualism, abstraction, the ordered and transcendent (the Apollonian). Though its also ultimately about overcoming even this dualism. Beyond this its about sex, drugs and rock n roll!
Watcher : What kind of Magick do you do? High or Low? Hermetic Gnosticism or Witchcraft?
Kaotec : Both. Again I object to these terms 'high or low', we want to collapse the distinction, we work both practically in the world and also on ourselves and broader ideals. If we want to practise Witchcraft we will form a temporary autonomous 'Covine', if we want to be Magi we will form a transient Temple. Usually what we do is a mixture of both. I use a reformed version of Enochian magic to bridge the two.
Watcher : Bloody amazing. But tell us about the art projects, we just reviewed the Pink Fish event which you were involved with, and what is FUCK all about?
Kaotec : Well FUCK is when a man and a women….. No I'll resist that! The Foundation for Unrestricted Carnal Knowledge is the vehicle I and others work with in relation to Sexpol, often in league with groups such as the Sexual Freedom Coalition, of which I'm still an associate, and former member of the editorial team of their paper Consenting Adults. It basically aims to keep the 'Sexual Revolution' alive and as radical as possible. Its particularly into Queer Theory, which unites Gay and Lesbian politics with the BDSM/Fetish scene and Polyamory, the latter of which I'm currently writing a book on, anything that promotes free sex and unites us all basically. Supporters of FUCK are referred to as FUCK buddies. :)
The art group I'm mostly involved with now is the Pink Fish Ensemble, as you say, this is centred on the work of the brilliant Iranian artist Maryam Hashemi, and I guess is somewhere in the evocative triangle between Magical Realism, Surrealism and Neo-Dada. However you label it, and you probably can't, its very Dionysian. I'm also working with the excellent Foolish People theatre group along with other members of the Dionysian Underground at the moment. Which brings back memories of the Warp Experience, created by Fraser Clarke, a guy in whose Psytrance clubs I tried to raise some enlightenment a few years ago. More recently I tried to create a Pataphysical group, the Alfred Jarry Foundation for the Preservation of Extinct Species, but that's very much on the back burner at the moment due to time constraints. Ultimately I see art, magic, spirituality, psychedelia and both idealistic and practical issues as all entwined, and part of the same dynamic mystery that is Existence. Or something like that!
