About Me

Layout Provided By FreeCodeSource.com - Myspace Layouts Hello, i started this page n honor of my father who passed away from pancreatic cancer at the age of 60, Feb. 23, 2005. Before my father was diagonosed, i had never heard of pancreatic cancer. My father complained of stomach aligments in dec of 04, doctors said it was his bladder, went in for a rountine bladder operation, but when the doctors opened my father up, they realized it was pancreatic cancer. he was so far gone, it was stage 4 already, they gave my father 3 weeks, he died 19 days later!! i then vowed to find out more about this obscure cancer. thats when i joined Pan-Can as a volunteer. i am in the process of starting a memorial fund in his honor. About Pan-Can Pan-Can is an organization developed to bring awareness and educate the public about pancreatic cancer. They have various programs, such as PALS,Patient and Liaison Services which is a source of quality information and resources for pancreatic cancer patients, their families, and health professionals. Pan-Can funds career development grants for pancreatic cancer research in order to increase the number of investigators working in the field of pancreatic cancer. Pan-Can relies heavily on Team Hope, its volunteer base to get out its message.About Pancreatic cancer *approximately 32,180 americans will be diagnosed w/pancreatic cancer this year, of those 31,340 will not survive the year.*the average lifespan of a newly diagnosed patient is 3 weeks(my father lived 19 days after being diagnosed) to this day there is no early detection.*its the 4th leading cause of cancer deaths in the U.S.*the research spending per pancreatic cancer patient is the lowest of any leading cancer.*in 2003 the National Cancer Institute(NCI)spent a mere 0.8 of 1% of its alotted cancer research budget (4.592 billion dollars) on pancreatic cancer(36.5 million)*through Pan-Can's advocacy efforts, the federal funding for pancreatic cancer has increased by $25 million since 1999.its time we take action against a disease that has been ignored for too long. We must take action now, because if not now, when? plain layout @ HOT FreeLayouts love / music / movies / frazy Home | Browse | Search | Invite | Film | Mail | Blog | Favorites | Forum | Groups | Events | Videos | Music | Comedy | Classifieds
