About Me

A group of teenagers lose control of their car which plunges off a bridge into a river. They must be dead, think the local townsfolk, but out creeps a survivor who attempts to carry on with life as she knows it...
A Statement of the facts as we know them concerning patient "M":
Subject has periodic dissociative spells. These spells are accompanied by a loss of hearing and a numbness is the extremities. Subject has complained of a mysterious visitor that has been following her, When asked to describe the man she went into an uncontrollable screaming fit and the nurses had to sedate her. X-Rays have shown a parasite to be living in the brain area. Perhaps this is the cause of M's hallucinations. We are unable to determine the exact nature of the parasite as it has tried to disguise itself as part of the brain. Geraldine has scheduled surgery to have it removed and tested.
Updates on M's condition:
6/12/92: Upon operating it was discovered not to be a parasite but some form of audio transmitter. Its origin and function remain a mystery. M claims to have no knowledge of how the device came to be implanted. In the days following the operation the patient appears to be more alert and has only complained of mild discomfort.
The device itself is a small black metal box approximatly 1" in diameter. I am unable to determine the type of metal the device is made of and it contains no imprint of the manufacturer. How is it this showed up as a parasite on our X-Rays? 6/26/92: It has been 2 weeks since the operation and after some initial promising results M's condition has deteriorated signifigantly. She has become very lethargic and depressed. She seems to be showing signs of withdrawal. Perhaps she somehow became physically addicted to these radio transmissions. 7/2/92: I have been sucessfull in hooking the tranmitter up to our audio recorder. I have had Dr. Masters monitoring the tapes but all that we have gotten so far is continuous clicks and static. There is definatly a pattern to the transmissions but I cannot determine what it signifies. 8/1/92: It is with great weight on my heart that I report on the passing of Benny Jefferies. Benny was one of our interns here at the lab. He helped out with restraining the patients, cataloging the audio recordings of our therapy sessions, assisting in procedures, Various things around the office. Last week Benny asked me for the week off saying it was an emergancy. Normally I wouldn't have allowed the time off on such short notice but there was such a desperate look upon his face I knew it was something very serious. When he did not check in on Monday we were all a little concerned as he has kept a perfect attendance the entire time with us and has never failed to call if he was not going to be in. When he did not show up or call again on Tuesday morning I grew concerned and went to check on him myself as I did not have any procedures scheduled that morning.
I recieved no response to my knocks on the door and finding the door unlocked I decided to enter. Normally I would have left him to his privacy but the strange request for timeover and the look he had on his face made me think that perhaps the young man had gotten himself into some trouble he could not handle. Upon opening the door I was assulted by a very familiar sound. Benny had made a copy of the audio transmissions recieved from "M" transmitter. He was sitting in a chair in the living room with the recording on an endless loop. Rigor mortis had already set in. It appears he was so enraptured by the recordings that he simply sat in the chair and listened while he starved to death.
I have spent the better part of the day at the police station answering what questions I could without bringing too much attention on our work. The last thing I need is the police coming down trying to question "M". An experiance like that could undo all the progress I have been making with his.
Bennys services are being held at Thompson Funeral Home this Friday. Anyone wishing to attend or send flowers please contact me for details. 8/9/92: It has been a little over a week since Benny's passing. The office has taken on a very somber tone since he left. There had been some talk of looking for a replacement but we decided it was just a little too soon. I have been picking up some extra duties to try to help out. Perhaps thats why I find myself here at 10 o'clock at night going through his files and replaying old conversations in my head. Was there something I missed? Is it possible I knew he was capable of something like this but I was just blind to it at the time because of my involvment in my cases. I can't blame myself for what happened. I have to keep myself strong for the sake of the others. I think I might be the only person holding this place together right now. I'd better get off the computer. His family is coming for his personal effects tommorow and I still have to get them packed up. 9/2/92: Geraldine was around again digging through M's file. She always wants to know why M has been scheduled for so many surgeries latley when she is supposed to be recovering. She also seems to suspect that there is a reason why I always have Johnson scheduled to perform her surgeries. I wish she would stop interfering. She really doesn't understand the intricacies of Marys case. She also doesn't know that Carl Johnson is somewhat infamous around the unit for using lots of tools during surgery and then dumping them on one of the nurses to sterlize and clean up. Like in most hospitals here the nurses are overworked and accidents happen. It would be very easy for one or two of those tools to go missing. Under the guise of making my rounds to check up on the nurses I steal one or two small items after they have been counted. I can tell that some of the nurses are very intimidated by my presence. If they were to notice the missing items they would most likley blame themselves for messing up because of nerves. The scent of M's blood and tissue imprinted into the metal helps me to concentrate and I will need a whole lot of concentration to get the bottom of her condition.
