..Hollywood - Cincinnati's Premier Big Hair Rockin' Showcase & Review!..
Formed in 1985 as the salvation of two overworked Cincinnati waifs living in Ft. Myers, FL, reuniting guitarist Michael Oakley and bassman Steve Hamons with drummer Tim Eversole and vocalist/frontman Steve Starmann from a disbanding road outfit called Highway Star.
These four had a brief stint together back home in 1983 doing basement rehearsals with the gigging band Roxx, which disbanded before playing one show together.
Paths diverged and reconnected in a seedy go-go bar one steamy Friday night in Hallendale, FL and the concept of "Hollywood" was born.
We won't say anything about the furniture found in the hotel's pool the next morning....
Through the 80's and early 90's, Hollywood rocked to packed "A-list" clubs and a few dives throughout the Midwest and beyond, playing the hot Bighair tunes of the day, doing full shows and as openers for national acts. Band members changed occasionally, but the concept of Hollywood stayed true to its' roots - to provide the best possible entertainment through music selection and professional delivery, bringing full blown concert-style shows to the local bars.
In late 1993, onetime frontman/guitarist Scott Wright, returned from earthquake-ridden LA and brought the suggestion of putting the band back together. Eversole, Hamons & Oakley accepted the invitation and rehearsals began.
After a couple gigs together, Bird Eversole would not be able to keep his commitment to the project and skinpounder & longtime Hollywood fan Brian "Stumpy" Lee was recruited and filled the slot seamlessly.
The band played quite frequently in the Tri-State region through the 90's, eventually switching the playlist from the grunge hits of the time back to the classic Bighair stuff of "the days".
Over the years to now, increasing amounts of outside committments and obligations have limited the amount of gigs Hollywood as a band is able to perform and at present, each show has come to be the buildup of all those 'missed opportunities' that frequency provides.
To that we say, "Got 'Wood?"
