The Japanese Host with The Most, the Chameleon of the Dance Music Industry….the Samurai of Breaks himself…..Masa was born in Tokyo, Japan and first arrived in England at the age of 16 with a life-long ambition of producing good tunes and a ruthless determination to turn the UK music industry on its head.After a series of powerful performances with his live band on the bustling University Circuit (leading to a series of successful Indie label signings), Masa then focused attention on his avant-garde methods of song-writing and production by branching out into electronic music production.After forming one half of the innovative Bristol-based “DeEsser Productions” Studio & Label partnership, this formative venture led to a series of successful promotional releases ranging from trance to deep-house as well as some early breakbeat tracks co-written with stable-mate Nigel Reyes which drew critical acclaim from the industry and led to a number of exclusive appearances on the Ibiza circuit that year.Schmidt, was formed in 2002 by Dan and Masa when they met by chance at a local club in Bristol. Realizing that they had a common interest in dance music and breakbeat in particular, they agreed to collaborate and write a series of demo tracks in Masa's Bristol Harbourside studio.Early material included some house remixes and funky house which aired favourably on the thriving Bristol Bar and Club circuit as well as receiving repeated airplay on Commercial and Internet Radio Stations around the planet. This encouraged our dynamic duo to focus more attention on achieving their own individual “Breaks” sound, as it was soon becoming apparent with each subsequent release that the Schmidt formula was more suited to a “funky rock beat” rather than a simple 4-to-the-floor loop.After 3 years of solid studio work and meticulous refinement of existing material, the results of their efforts are bearing fruit and Schmidt is rapidly building an impressive catalogue of brand new tracks, remixes and exclusive Live material that you will only get to see and hear on stage.Schmidt will certainly have a busy summer ahead of them this year as they embark on a series of promotional gigs around the country.
