I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

A Pom is an English citizen who has settled in Australia. I lose this page - so I'm writing only a bit at a time. LOOK UP MY PROFILE - FOR THE REAL ME. I've HAD a 40-year-career as a newsman and showbiz reporter in London,Melbourne and Sydney. Big splash in New York Post when the Dixie Chicks (now MY SPACE friends-thanks girls) revealed during a tour of Australia that they had secured their properties against attacks from red-necks who didn't like their remarks about George W. Brave girls. This site has grown in friendships-from about 4 people to now almost 200 - in a few months. Every friend I admire for their artistry, humor, attractiveness - and just being naturally charming people. I have not formally welcomed them all-but I will. For sentimental reasons this is how I would like visitors to first view my profile-from when it all started. Here's how I began... I WOULD like to welcome new friends to my site-Allar,Pedro,Graham,Fiona Apple, Aimee Mann and Mindi Abair. Allar, from Estonia, is a guitar virtuouso whom I'm pleased to call my friend. See my blog for more on this great guy-and great guitarist. Pedro Angel is also an amazing guitarist who plays the guitar music of South America in a spectacular way. Pedro is destined for a big future. Graham Timbrell is my oldest buddy. We were at boarding school together in the UK. He is a very talented artist, teacher and picked up music by ear. He is developing a unique New Agey style. Mindi Abair is a saxophonist of genius. She is perhaps the most widely known of the smooth jazz artists. But a marvellous singer, too,Mindi doesn't want to pigeonhole herself. Fiona Apple is a striking talent. She and Sarah McLachlan are among my favorite contemporary singers. Aimee Mann is the artists' artist. By that, I don't mean she ignores her public. Far from it. But her artistry is of the rare kind. It was as if God had blessed her brow. An Aimee Mann comes along once a lifetime-listen to her while she's here... NOW TO THE PRESENT DAY-Wednesday,September 6,2006,6.30 pm (Melbourne time) I want firstly to congratulate Mindi Abair on her success with her saxophone/vocals album Life Less Ordinary which rocketed to No. 1 position on Billboard-as soon as it was released. Also, the extraordinary success of Fiona Apple with her strikingly innovative new album Extraordinary Machine, Kate Bush also for a wonderful new album and last but not least...Aimee Mann for her deeply-felt ,lyrical Forgotten Arm CD which once heard is never forgotten. My first friend Kat (pictured with fantastic jazz trumpeter Chris Botti) is from Chris's website (www.chrisbotti.com) and My Space. Other friends from the site are Suzie,MartaA,Kat,Sarah,Diana,Jessica,Brigitte,Zondzia, Kurobecca-and many others. We all have a lot of fun. Thanks Jeremy, who moderates the Chris Botti website, and, naturally,Chris himself who lets us all have a good time. I'm also a member of jazz saxophonist and vocalist Mindi Abair's wbsite (wwww.mindiabair.com). Mindi often puts in great comments and is very witty. Good luck with all your best-selling albums,Mindi. I WOULD LIKE to welcome aboard fellow Melburnian Catherine Duc (Her music has great soothing and healing powers), Carol Alban, Johnny Philko Band - and the delightful KIMBER MANNING. Kimber, I just have to look at your lovely face and hear your voice-and you revive my spirits. ALS0, THE MULTI-TALENTED SYDNEYSIDER THE DIVINE MISS WHITE. This lady writes marvellously, very witty, with a great affection for language. Unfortunately, I have not heard her sing jazz-but will bookmark a gig next time I visit Harbor City. A lady of wit and compassion. SUZIE,from near Hamburg, is taking time-out ... after a friendship she sometimes was very comfortable with - and then not. The tyranny of distance (Australia & Germany), a real loss of interest...who knows? It's now in the past. Also DIANE CHRISTINE was one of my first friends, and she has remained the truest.MEANWHILE,I am always on the look out for talented newcomers to promote on my website. If you think you have what it takes, let me hear you sing or play. -Dave from Downunder aka AussieDave!_________________________________________________ ____ Layout made by caribouranch

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I try to live by the dictum:"No expectations-no disappointments." Yes, it's a world-weary view of life, and I am more optimistic than that really! Who I'd like to meet. I thought it might happen-maybe.SUZIE,from Hamburg. My other American friends Kat,Sarah,Diana,Diane Christine,Kurobecca - who always makes me laugh, Brigitte and Sonia, from the UK. MARTA. From Warsaw. I hope so. She is a unique young woman-with original ideas. ONE LINK: We all share similar musical tastes, particularly the superb playing of jazz trumpeter Chris Botti. Also my Estonian guitarist mate ALLAR. A very wry and observant bloke! And,of course, my old Pommy Mate Graham "Jerky" Timbrell. Now a superb composer. The Divine Miss Melanie, Tila - they make me laugh a lot. Plus,of course, jazz trumpeter Chris Botti and the gorgeous Mindi Abair, the sax queen. I prefer networking now-it's more rewarding socially & professionally.
