He was born in Van Nuys, California.
but he grew up in Calabasas, California.
He first met Jose Pasillas, which is the bands drummer, in elementary school. In high school he was asked to join a band which already consisted of Jose, Mike Einziger, and Alex Katunich (aka Dirk Lance). They quickly became a popular band around his neighborhood. They caught Sony's Epic/Immortal records eye and got a record deal. Incubus has released many succussful albums since then. However, Alex is no longer in the band.
