About Me

Chuck Slay went on to write and produce for a number of local artists, while accumulating an impressive song catalogue comprising more than 500 songs. A gifted writer, Slays catalogue included a diverse range of music and accommodated a variety of genres including soul, rock, country, jazz, techno and hip hop. Later teaming up with Motor-City talent Anthony Larkin, the two formed Icehouse Productions. During the late nineties, Icehouse discovered and developed a number of acts in the Detroit, Toledo and Chicago areas. The company emerged as a local leader in the music industry and provided production and song-writing services to many local labels. Slay also has produced recordings that were used as movie soundtracks. 1999, his work was featured on the soundtrack of award winning independent film The King, which is based on fifties rock and roll.In 1993, Slay formed an all male R&B vocal group Rekonyze. The group was signed to the blue chip label, Qwest/Warner Bros, following a bidding war among several major industry labels. While under contract with Warner Bros, Slay wrote and produced under the direction of the legendary Quincy Jones. This experience provided an opportunity for Slay to hone his musical and production skills and work with work with noted producers and songwriters such as Dwayne Wiggins, Ogi Pierce, Vassal Benford, Characters Corp, Derrick Whittingham, Steve Russell and Carl Thomas. The single "Anytime", recorded on a demo by Rekonyze, received massive club and air play in the UK. The song was featured on a DJ pool compilation as a promotion, but was not released. Never complacent, Slay decided to push the boundaries and commenced working on a rock project in an attempt to further showcase his diversity as a writer/producer. Forever mindful of the motor-city pool of talent, he assembled an all black rock act, Coonn. The band created quite a buzz in the Michigan area.
