My Interests
First and foremost, spending time with God. Then everything else falls into place! He's given the talent of expressing myself through words.
I have some poems on poetry.com under Joanna Ruth Turner. There's like 5 of them or something. One of them was published in the International Library of Poetry's anthology.
I also write songs with a melody, though I'm not that great at adding piano to go with it, as I don't play very well by ear.
I've tried a couple times to write a novel, but I usually lose interest in writing it after a couple days. I think I have like 2 or 3 unfinished stories stashed at my parent's house somewhere. I have written a couple short stories though, like for school and stuff. As long as it's 5 pages or less, it'll get done.
Most of what I write I credit to God, as he gives me the words and melodies. It is always my wish that my words touch someone in the way they touch me as I'm writing them. I'd love to publish my own book someday, but that's expensive unless I get "discovered."
I love to sing, especially to God. I was in choir throughout elementary, junior, and high school, as well as the 1 year I was in choir. We even went on tour during my college days, but I actually wasn't a big fan of traveling on the road, but not for the reason you might think. See, we left for the 1st tour right after I met Matt and I was so deep in puppy love that I just missed him and yearned for him the whole time we were gone. Angie (my best friend and Gracie's god-mother) roomed with me on tour, but ironically we didn't become good friends until just this past year.
I like to cross-stitch, usually stuff like baby bibs where the design is already stamped on and all I have to do is follow a graph. However, as with writing long stories, I lose interest pretty quickly, so I've actually only managed to finish 1 bib in my lifetime, and have another one that is 1/2 done.
Um, I can't think of anything else right now, but I do have other interest. I'm pretty diverse.
I'd like to meet:
I can't wait to meet my best friend, Jesus. He's done so much for me!
Music:
What Kind of Music I Like
I like alternative/contemporary Christian and also modern country.
I'm not a big fan of heavy metal or rap because you can't understand the lyrics, therefore you can't hear the message.
I also like lyric-free dance music, but you DON'T want to see me dance!
Also, Wally on total axxess rocks! (I try listening to him on Shine 89.7FM from 6-10PM on weekdays).
Movies:
What Movies Have Inspired Me
"Facing the Giants" and "Flywheel" are two movies that always teach me good lessons. No matter how many times I watch them, they always manage to teach me something I didn't learn before.
I recently watched "August Rush" and just fell in love with movie, the story, and especially the beautiful music. Although the story is very unlikely to ever happen in real life, the main aspect of the movie is Evan's hope in music, something you cannot see or feel; but you can hear it, and you just know your life is different with it in you, and that reminds me of my relationship with God.
Some favorites are "A Lot Like Love," "50 First Dates," "The Notebook," and "National Treasure - Book of Secrets."
Television:
What's On the Boob Tube
Althought we don't have cable in our house because we find it distracts us from more important things, if I get the opportunity I'll watch it somewhere else.
I proudly admit that at 23 years old I still watch the Disney channel often. I like "Hannah Montana" and "Life With Derek."
I use to like "House" but I don't like his attitude much. House is so negative at everything! But the medical discoveries and procedures intrigue me. I just wonder how much of it is based on fact.
Books:
What You'll Find On My Bookshelf
It may be very taboo, but the Bible. All of life's answers are in there, if you just take the time to LISTEN to God.
I read a book by James Patterson called "The Diary" and it was heartbreaking but such a good read.
I really love "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers. No matter how many times I read it, it always hits some rough points and shows me how God has been working in my life.
Heroes:
Who I Admire
My mom - with how much she's gone through, she's always shown faith. And of course, Jesus.
