About Me

It has been a while since I updated my page! I am a very easy going, very tall, very confident woman. I know what I want in life and intend to acheive all of my goals. I am a single mother of a wonderful 5 year old boy, who happens to be autistic. My son will be 6 years old in just a few months. He was diagnosed with Pervasive Development Disorder, one of the lower forms of Autism, a little over a year ago. He is an incredibly bright and very intelligent little boy, yet his speach has not yet caught up with his brain. He has been in Kindergarden this year and has progressed so well in his social skills, which if you don't know can be one of the hardest things for these children to adjust to. I am determined to give him the best education I can possibly provide. This process starts with me. I must learn as much as I can about this disease to fully understand it and learn the best way that I can raise my child. He has taught me so much already and there are so many more years of learning, for the both of us. My son takes a Ritalyn form medication on a daily basis and at this point in his life I would not have it any other way. The medication has helped him tremendously. So for anyone reading this who has reservations about trying medication for thier child, please don't. You have to at least try to help them in every way that you can. All Autistic children are uniqe and different and it can't hurt to at least try. My goal is to teach my son that he is different and to teach him to understand what is going on inside of his little brain. I do not wish for him to be medicated all of his life and I beleive that by helping him to understand his emotions and what is going on inside of him that he will have a better ability to control that emotion himself as he ages. Therefor, he will be able to function as an adult in our society. If you have read this far you just might be interested in learning more, and learning how you can help this cause. 1 in 150 children will be born with this disease. Many children do not show signs until after age 2, like my son. If you think that something is not right, then there is a good chance it is not. Please get it checked. The only way to help these children is to figure out what is going on with them and then educate yourself to help them. The best way to help the children is to not be scared, it is not about you it is about them! We must find out what is causing it, learn how to stop it and find a cure for it. At least read about it and then you can decide for yourself where you should go with that new found knowledge. www.autism-society.org or autismspeaks.com are good places to start, or check out some of my friends with thier very informative sites. I enjoy meeting new people and learning about them. Life is a constant state of learning from one another.
