Sanaa was born in October at Downstate Medical Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Born to parents who were once members of a popular local band, she was destined to follow the same musical path. She always had a desire to sing as a young child but began to take it seriously when her father taught her to harmonize at the age of seven.
From there, Sanaa began to pursue her own musical endeavors by participating in the weekly talent shows given at PS 73 in Brooklyn. At the age of 12, she joined a church choir to sharpen her vocal ability. Sanaa attended Broughton High School in Raleigh, NC where she belonged to a group and also became a member of the gospel choir. She also attended B.N. Cardozo High School in Queens, New York where she again joined the gospel choir. When Sanaa arrived back in North Carolina she would learn that writing was her first love. In the fall of 1996 Sanaa attended North Carolina Central University where she briefly took up rapping. It was at this time that she discovered her ability to write and arrange songs. She decided to abandon rapping completely and sharpen her writing skills. While in school, Sanaa began to sing background for local Durham rap artist Twip. During the two years that she performed with him she began working on her own recordings. The positive response to her work that was played in local venues such as clubs and campus parties inspired her to perform live. She has appeared in various local venues as well as a few performances in NY. Sanaa also performed for NCCU's Spring Fling featuring Floetry, rapper Juvenile, and Goapele. Sanaa has recently expanded her audience by performing in New York at Ashford and Simpson's Sugar Bar for a panel of A&R's hosted by Women Who Jam. She continues to perform at local venues but is always on the go sharing her sound with fans nationwide. In the meantime she continues to hone her writing skills in hopes of writing the perfect hit for the perfect artist.Sanaa has been inspired by various R&B and NeoSoul greats including Regina Belle, Faith Evans, Aretha Franklin, Lauryn Hill, The Isley Brothers, Alicia Keys, and India Arie to name a few. Similar to artist Ne-Yo, Sanaa has a passion for writing that surpasses the desire to be a performer. Although her style is versatile, her sound is classic and will transcend many barriers. It is obvious in Sanaa's writing that she is passionate about everything that she has to say. It is through her music that she hopes to touch millions and give them an opportunity to share her passion.
Sanaa will be looking to release her solo project in the near future, but continues to pen for other artists. Contact her directly at
