About Me

Ciao!I'm 19 and live in Newton on the Wirral, near Liverpool, UK. Terribly ordinary lower-middle-class background, living with my parents and my one brother, Alan. Used to go to Black Horse Hill Primary and Calday Grange Grammar Schools before chickening out and going to Uni in Liverpool to study Popular Music, Politics and Italian. Dreadfully shy and melancholy disposition. Vaguely Scouse accent.... and since October 2005, i've been a member of THAT caustic collective Sinbad's Unbelievable Revolution, playing whatever instruments come to hand, keys, guitar, bass, rudimentary cowbell etc. We started off on a psych/funk/dub/kraut-y trip (or, as i like to call it, Proberock - one for the locals), jamming like pied pipers under the Uni Student's Union. At the time of going to press, i'm 'on sabbatical' (much like Ross on Friends) due to some long-term personal stuff i'm trying to sort out. Si, Ad and Paz are presently rocking the synth/sample/electro pop thang with the vocal assistance of Lia. A New New Order per chance? Go listen like good boys and girls at www.myspace.com/sinbadsunbelievablerevolution.I used to be in an 'imaginary' band with Ad and Paz called Echodek, a five piece renowned for their intra-band tension and affectionate ripping-off of The Smiths and The Stone Roses (although we probably sounded more like Boney M with a cold). Nah, in fairness, the odd song was OK, but, looking back, we kinda sounded like a very uncomfortable mix of Felt and The Icicle Works. Suffice to say, we seriously split opinion.Although i don't currently sing, my artistic temperment renders me an ongoing bedsit songwriter, both musically and lyrically speaking. I'm totally inconsistent and totally persistent in equal measures... the ideal combination?Ci vediamo bambini...

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Not really one for hero worship... seems a bit pointless. Plus i'd most probably embarrass meself.Meanwhile, here are a couple of videos... To celebrate the first new Julian Cope album in about 10 years available in, like, y'know, shops and not just via his website, here's a ridiculously random but amusing Teardrop Explodes clip from 1981. The song's 'Colours Fly Away', a wilfully subversive gem off 'Wilder', possibly the most under-rated album ever (i don't care what Simon Reynolds says). Anywho, how better to announce the arrival of a bizarre new single than by miming on a kids music show whilst wearing your Mum's nightshirt? The rest of the band keep the weed-speed-and-acieed theme going with everyone's favourite sexual predator/accountant Dave Balfe camping it up in short sleeves, trumpet dude Ted Emmett being barely able to stand and God himself Troy Tate apparently being shot during the middle eight. Having deliberately ripped off his stage moves during the Sinbad's years, i'm disappointed never to have tried that one out. If this all means nothing to you, you REALLY need to read 'Head-On'!Second up is a very weird bit of nostalgia. I've no idea how popular this game was, but playing the demo some 10 years ago apparently stuck with me. It's 'The Neverhood', a claymation adventure epic co-produced by Dreamworks (i think). It's hard to believe such a high profile company had anything to do with it, being possibly the most immature nonsense ever imposed on the moneyed (or perhaps monkeyed) masses. I've no idea what the entire game was like (maybe the joke started to wear thin over time), but this particular clip always made me laugh. Context is frankly irrelevant...As an added bonus... quite why it's taken me so long to get some Beach Boys/Brian Wilson related material up here is frankly beyond me. To put things right, here's a total gem of an original 1966/7 'Smile' recording. Even in its 2004 version, there's still a pretty formidable argument for declaring this the Greatest Album Of All Time. There, i just did. Feels good. Anyway, this is a collection of clips from the recording of 'Cabinessence'. Hear it and weep. You know i will be...

My Blog

Waxing lyrical PT.1

Despite lacking much in the way of a singing voice, i've always loved writing songs. I play a large part in writing the Sinbad's material, but given that we're currently an instrumental troupe, there'...

So as to prevent any undue annoyance, i've decided to change my profile song daily, or at least regularly. Here's a list of what's been up so far. Needless to say, they're all works of art...   1...

Arthur And Syd

As if the loss of one psychedelic genius, Syd Barrett, a couple of weeks back wasn't enough, we're now faced with the news that Arthur Lee, simply one of my favourite writers of all time, has died at ...
