Ok, I'll start with convenient labels (how does one fit a whole person into dominant paradigms of language? Discuss) and work my way toward some herstory; multisexual, multi- ethnic, middle femme (my high femme tiara is on layaway, I'm accepting donations) Pagan, feminist, surivivor, certified swedish masseuse, leo with a pisces rising & moon hence the multi-faceted, otherwise known as conflicted, nature that is mine. Intelligent and thoughtful discussions around labels, is appreciated, but a dogmatic or semantic argument around them isn't, got a taste of (and still have a craving for) the first and my fill of the latter during my graduate work in women's studies. Everyone out there who's had their "consciousness raised" can feel me on this one, am I right? Onto the herstory, I remember my life by geography though I can't read maps and relationships: Born in the land of Dorothy (Kansas), never did consider it my home, but I always have had a hankering for some red glitter shoes and i do love cowardly lions. I spent some formative years there (toddler and college years and double-majored in sociology and applied psychology). Raised by hippie parents from the mid-west who fled to the west coast by way of Alaska, hence my membership of the secret valley girl intelligence society as described by Kathleen Hanna. I came to DC to get my master's in women's studies and intern with some fabulous organizations. I'm happy to say i've done that and met some incredible people along the way (hence why i am still here!)
