THIS IS JUST A TRIBUTE PAGE TO THE BOSS
GEORGE STEINBRENNER George Michael Steinbrenner III was born on July 4, 1930 in Rocky River, Ohio. I am the main proprietor of the New York Yankees since 1973. Also known as “The Boss”, I helped the club to win 9 American League Championships and six World Series title (1977-78, 1995-1996, 1997-1998, 1998-1999, 1999-2000). In my 30 years of occupancy I have changed the clubs’ managers 20 times in his first 23 years of ownership and general managers 11 times in 30 years. I also possess interest in buying the New Jersey Nets and the New Jersey Devils. My bluntness and role in driving up my players’ remunerations have made me one of the most contentious celebrities. In my childhood, I George Steinbrenner was lovingly addressed as Sias, which was also my mother’s maiden name. I was raised in suburban Cleveland, Ohio. Steinbrenner ran track and played football at Culver Military Academy in Indiana and ran track at Williams College in Massachusetts. In 1954, I started coaching high school basketball and football in Columbus, Ohio in the United States Air Force. The same season he became the assistant football coach at Northwestern University and then at Purdue University. I became the owner of the Cleveland Pipers of the National Industrial Basketball League in 1960 which became a part of the American Basketball League in 1961 and won a championship. MY highly acclaimed team eventually broke since I was unable to accumulate the mandatory funds needed immediately to join the National Basketball Association. Steinbrenner returned to the American Shipbuilding Company and ultimately bought it. From their, MY fortune initiated. Steinbrenner due to his legacy was always a rich man. My propensity to run a baseball team and that too not just any baseball team was extraordinary. Though I knew nothing about baseball at that time, I proposed $9 million to buy the Cleveland Indians. But MY offer was turned down. In January 1973, I materialized my desire and bought the most prestigious baseball team in the world for $10 million, the New York Yankees. My time with the Yankees has been marked by controversy, disagreements and success, though the Yankees have won 9 League championships and 6 World Series titles under my stupendous management. I have earned a notorious name for myself for having been involved in the altercations with his players and for the hunt of expensive free-agents for his team. Once me and my $3 million outfielder Reggie Jackson were commented by Martin that, "One's a born liar and the other's convicted." This remark resulted in Martin’s first rustication. I even became a part of the political controversy when he campaigned for President Nixon’s presidency. In July 1990 I was barred by Commissioner Fay Vincent from the baseball since I paid Howie Spira, a small-time gambler, $40,000. He restored my position in 1993. Even though i am holding the most contentious status, i do not fail to enjoy my life to its fullest. In 1990, I anchored Saturday Night Live in which I dreamt of managing my Mona Lisa team, coaching and playing and carrying all the activities entirely by myself. I also appeared in a VISA commercial with Derek Jeter. In the 2004 commercial, Steinbrenner has been shown incapable of signing any checks due to an injury. Even i was caricatured in the satirical Seinfeld.Extended Network Banner made with MyBannerMaker.com! Click here to make your own!
