About Me

MyGen Profile Generator
DJ, author, producer, remixer, label owner and artist.
Holding a " lengendary " status, leaving his mark as a piooner being one of the first playing house music, then, being a major player in starting the techno/rave movement, his name, which has been heard for 28 years, is a symbol of talent, success and a continuously renewed vision of an irresistible and universal sound.
He is one of the Montreal DJs that stand out by having set the trends in the last twenty years or so.
Born Canadian, originally from Montreal, now with an extra portion of German, officially added by marriage and spending nearly 14 years in Europe (Holland and Germany).
He was amongst and maybe one of the 1st few Canadian dj to play House music regularly in Montreal's club in 1986. (he really believed and pushed the House Music sound to the point of losing a 6 years residency for playing repetitive beats)
Later on, a major player in starting the tekno and rave movement in Canada (going to Berlin in 1992 and bring back lots of tekno music), then being one of the first Canadian dj to go play to other cities and move to Europe.
Robert has written record reviews for Canadian, American (Streetsound, Trance 5000) and German music magazines (Raveline, Loop) and interviewed: Orbital, Gravitational arch of ten, Acid Junkies, Miss Djax, Stefan Robbers, Robert Armani, and Aphex twin.
he also worked as consultant artistic director of « EMC2 earth day/Jour De La Terre Montreal ».
Produced music for Cd Rom,Dvd's(Red bull Music Academy for Sid Lee). Robert's other Passion is his company called " Blooonk ", that specialize in producing soundscape, music for films, music and sounds for websites, sound branding, sound design, fashion shows soundtrack(Lancome in Dubai), museum events soundtrack, sound effects or sound textures for art exhibitions, etc...
He was the first Canadian to start playing more than just one club in the same city, fighting the hold by club owners to restrain him to their club only(being versatile and play different music at other club was at first a subtle way to break the ice in that regard) and also one of the first to get booked as "Guest Dj ", traveling to other cities for gigs at clubs and events, and also one of the first, of the much later wave trend of Djs, Producers, all moving to Berlin.
In 1993, leaves Canada and go for an adventure, yes, but also to be able to fully express himself musically without compromise, to, at that time, a more open and responsive European audience, but also to live in Europe long enough to really experience the difference in the cultures, produce, run labels and a lot of djing around every weekend, sometimes even, 2-3 events in one long night. The long unconstrained European club/event opening hours being another reason for leaving Canada and wanting the full European experience.
In Europe, first in lived Maastricht in THE NETHERLANDS (HOLLAND) and then in Köln (Cologne) in GERMANY.
Now based in Montreal.
Robert has 29 years of experience as a dj and always was and still involved in other aspects of the music, like writing for magazines, reviews, interviews, reports, licensing music for mixed cd's, running several record labels, producing, remixing, doing concept nights and producing events..
Often ahead of his time and " avant-garde " with his approach and the style he plays and developed an art at introducing new music to different types of people. A bridge builder connecting...The purists, or from one scene to the other...
His personal taste range is broad and he's open for the new, unexpected, but also loves beautiful, fun party music of quality. With the years of experience going to play to complete unknown countries, he developped the awareness to be present in a club situation and have a good balance between the new and diffrent and the fun and beautiful to bring the quality vibe. A vibe installer, maker, that's what djing basically is all about regardless of the styles being played and finding a way to get the audience to enjoy it without plainly just playing safe what they like.
Versatile in styles he plays and produces. Elektronik is the main theme in it's different evolving forms. (House, elektro, minimal, maximal, acid, dreamy techy, Deep, vocal, Tekno, cinematic ambient experimental sound scapes, collages and noises). Immersed daily in listening a sea of new releases, Robert does a lot of research, so the music he plays is fresh and upfront, especially from producer, collegues and labels who sends him music.
He plays either sets of a certain type or concentrates on a specific style for a theme night or venue/crowd. (House Sets, or Elektro sets, Acid or minimal and even classic house or classic tekno sets) depending on the event and venue and concept of the night.
He really excels at playing longer sets making sense mixing the different styles and creating an experience, a voyage for the dancers/listeners. He plays all over the globe in various clubs, raves, parties and special events.
Robert has produced many records, mixed cds and remixes as well as running record labels.
