Despite its wild atmosphere, South Philly, PA, is loved by everybody that lives there because it's a place of learning. "It's crazy out here," admits 18-year-old South Philly native Shariek "Manzie Ock" Johnson. "But your usally cool if you mind your own business. When I'm gone for too long, I be missing it. This is where I'm from, this is my home."
Just a typical child of the ghetto. Manzie's upbringing was anything but stable. "Growing up in da the streets of SP. I witnessed shootings, robberys and murders. Niggas getting locked up is a everyday thing around here."
But Manzie wasn't always known for writing rhymes. "It wasn't always my thing, I use to play basketball. "All my niggas was rappin', I use to fuck around with it but I was playing wit it." Manzie recalls, adding that his mother was a music lover who often danced to her favorite songs. So intrigued by music that represented his rough upbringing and all the negatives that surrounded him. He started to listen to and mimick the rap songs that represented him the most.
The more and more he listened. The more he loved the music. He beagn learning and riciting the lyrics to his favorite artists. And eventually he began to construct and recite his own rhymes over those same beats and melody's.
This when Shariek Johnson gave life to the artist, officially known as Manzie Ock. Stay tuned.
